So Ive had my Tivo for 10 hours now
WOW! Why is Tivo not near as popular as it should be? This does everything a comcast cable box would do plus WAY WAY more. Not to mention its so organized and so easy to use. I only have my phone line hook up right now, tomorrow im getting the wireless im sure once i get that i will enjoy it even more.
Does anyone here actually keep pictures or mp3s on their tivo? It seems like it might just waste space, also this guy on the phone said there are even online games in the tivo which you can play with other people when you have broadband
Anyways, I just wanted to say this surpassed all my expectations & tivo really really really needs to be more popular, im sure everyone would enjoy this box.
Great stuff

Welcome to the Tivolution!
As for the photos and music - they are played by your Tivo, not stored on it.

You actually keep them on your computer and just stream them to your Tivo over your network. They aren't actually stored on the Tivo itself.

Because no one ever really knows how good it is until they have it connected to their tv.

Ah... I remember my first time too; I went off and bragged to all my friends. Now I bet you won't be able to shut up about TiVo like you found god or something. I bet TiVo comes up in many, many conversations. Oh no! He's talking about TiVo again!
I've calmed down after 4 years, but everybody knows I have TiVo and if they still don't have it, I keep telling them what TiVo can do NOW! I hope TiVo's new simple payment plan with no upfront cost will cause lots of impulse buys for a product so many people heard about, but were afraid to spend the bucks to try it.
Pay for box, then pay for the service, then decide if they should fork over even more cash for Lifetime etc. Friends wouldn't try it for even only $100 and $100 rebate, so zero cost for the hardware because of the monthly fee.
Now it's all structured like cell phones and thats something most people are used to. Free TiVo box, no rebates, service included plus lots of free features and just a monthly payment and a one year commitment. What the heck, I'll take it!

Because it is one of those things that's nigh-impossible to explain to someone. They have to try it for themselves. Most people who try TiVo love it - it is just hard to get them to try it.

If you're going wireless, be sure to use the TiVo branded 11g adapter. It is worth it.

Music and photos aren't stored on the TiVo, they're accessed via the TiVo from a server on the net - like your own PC.
As for games - there are some included, once you're on the network, but also see http://www.Apps.tv/ And I'd check out http://www.galleon.tv/ too.
And you might hit the resources link in my signature...

I agree that is is just too difficult to explain until you get one. If my late uncle hadn't told me about it and demanded that I get one, I don't know if I would even have one now. I have the new DT and am completely thrilled with it so far. No more conflicts.
My only problem, and it's with me, not the box, is I don't know how to play my itunes from my networked computer. They all show up in a folder, even the name of the song appears, but I guess I'm not savy enough to get them to play. All my pictures show up just fine, but I don't see me using that feature very often.
Double true (from SNL Lazy Sunday) on getting the Tivo branded wireless adapter. It was a breeze to set up, even for me.
Anyway, welcome. Commercials are now mostly a thing of the past for you as well as the constraint of having to watch a show when the networks told you to.

Ain't it the truth! My friends in SF had one for years. I'd even go over there and watch it with them. I thought it was a neat thing, so I'd give them as gifts to people before I ever got one for myself. I even gave one to my daughter, and liked the DVDs she burned for me from it. But it wasn't till I sat down and saw my shows, the shows I wanted to watch, laid out for me like a banquet in such a fine manner that I KICKED myself.
I mean, I'd sat in front of my first Tivo in something like 1999, or 2000. And I didn't bother getting myself one till this year! All that wasted time!
