Rebooting problem ...

Alot of times when 1 of my tivo's loses power, it refuses to turn back unless I remove all the wires from it.

At 1 time it wouldn't turn on until I removed just the wireless adapter.

Now I have to remove everything...av cables, svideo cables and now wired adapter.

has any 1 else experienced this before and have resolved it?

or if any 1 knows what my problem is please post any suggestions. Will really appreciate it

thanks in advance

Can you give us more details on what it does exactly? Does it reboot during shows? Just randomly? How often is it happening? What software version are you running (see in Settings --> Account Information --> System Information)? How old is this Tivo?

When it attempts to reboot, what happens? Do you get past the "Couple more minutes" screen or does it get stuck on the "Powering Up" screen? Are you sure it has anything to do with the cables attached to the Tivo and isn't just random?

There is a known rebooting issue with 7.2.2 that has something to do with the broadband connection. See this link: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=292962 . What you have seems to behave differently than what others have noted.

I'm currently on 7.2.2 .... It happens 95% of the time that the tivo loses power( power surge/ Power goes out or breaker is turned off ) ... this unit is about 7 months old ( Was sent to me by tivo as a replacement for losing my original during the hurricane ) .... once I disconnect all the cables from the unit then it starts normally .. there r no random reboots ... i can hear the fan running inside the unit but the lights nor the powering up screen come up until I disconnect all cables and then plug the power cord then all works normal after that and I can just wait for it to reboot .... other thing that it does when this happens is that the clock is not set correctly... Example other night Iwas ready to goto bed .. we had a storm and the poiwer went out for 2 minutes .. that meant I had to get up unplug all the cables wait for it to reboot so I could make it make the daily call so the clock wouldnt be out of whack and it doesnt record my shows.

thanx for the reply and hope that u can help

You probably only really need to disconnect the power cable, have you tried that.
Also, an easy solution would to put your Tivo on a UPS, most electronic and computer stores have them.

Hmm, that sounds like a hardware issue as opposed to a software problem--assuming a breaker isn't triggered in your power strip. Most Tivos should automatically power back on after a power interruption without any intervention by the user. Could be a problem in the power supply... If it is still under warranty, look into having it checked out by Tivo.

Yes , I've tried only the power cord .. I've also tried 1 cable at a time to see if I could pin point which 1 is the problem ... all must come off or it won't turn back on ... the breaker turning off is my doing ( renovating from hurricane )

Thanks for the replies ...

If any 1 else has seen or heard of this problem please post will greatly appreciate it

Sounds like a you may have a failing power supply. Have you tried connecting the Tivo to another TV to see if it powers up with the cables connected? If it does then there is something wrong with your TV. (Although this does not explain the need to disconnect the network adapter). If it doesn't then there is a problem with the TiVo.

Edit: By any chance are you turning-off your other equipment (TV, A/V receiver, etc.) when unplugging the various cables? Does this equipment share the same power strip or wall outlet as the Tivo? If yes, perhaps you have a defective power strip or loose connection in the circuit that is causing the voltage at these devices to be marginal, that is, significantly less than 120Volts. If you are turning off the other equipment the voltage may return to a higher level, allowing the TiVo to reboot.

Most electronic equipment has internal voltage regulation circuitry to compensate for variations in the 120V input. Perhaps your input volatage is just too low with everything on to allow the TiVo to reboot.

I have 2 tivo's connected to the same surge protector... the 2nd tivo I just recently added ... before I added the 2nd tivo to the surge protector this was still happening and now 1 comes on w/o a problem and the other 1 doesn't ... I have not tried turning off other devices to see if it comes up ... I will try that and post result.

thanx again and in advance
