Of course it's a good thing for TiVo's bottom line, advertisers are happy and if they they can figure out a way to reduce the cost of the TiVo service for those who watch the ads, it will be fantastic for getting people to watch more ads. It's been expected for some time. TiVo announced it was coming, so it's nothing new except that 70 advertisers and a hundred brands isn't too shabby. I skip commercials all the time, so we'll see if they can get me to watch ads.
I had about 10 Rocketboom's stored up and my 10 year old son and I watched most of them last night. My son likes some of the subject matter and guess what, I can remember "Earthlink", but I still don't have to watch the ads inserted at the end of Rocketboom.
I still don't have to watch commercials, but if the product is something I'm interested in, I'll download the special content, infomercial, advotainment or just plain commercial and watch it for as long as it interest me. If it's good, I watch the whole thing, if it's no good I stop and delete it. It's going to be like picking up a magazine and choosing what articles and ads to read.
