(16) Limit two rebates per household
Does that apply to just the current rebate offer, or to TiVo rebates in general?

If I were to guess, I'd say it applies to only the current offer. But don't make any decisions based on my speculation.

For all in the past yes, might be changed in the future

I currently own three DirecTiVos (two SD, one HD), and I'm thinking about buying a stand-alone (DirecTV doesn't offer SD-LIL channels here, and while I can TiVo ABC and CBS in SD via DNS, I want to be able to TiVo FOX, NBC, and a neighboring DMA's CW affiliate in the SD TiVo rooms).
I'm also thinking of getting a Series 3 (when I get it depends on the price), but what I want to know is how long before I am eligible for another rebate?!

The limit is per rebate. So, provided TiVo has another rebate after the current one, you'll be eligible for that one as well. However there is no guarantee they will offer another rebate, and even if they do there is no guarantee it will apply to the Series 3.

OK, let me get this straight, then... if I'm understanding what the poster above is saying, I could go out and get TWO TiVo's now (both with $150 rebates), and get a discounted monthly fee, and then get a rebate for the Series 3 (should there be a rebate with the Series 3)... is that correct?!

The rebate now goes to 6/3/06 if you got two retail TiVos today you could get two $150 rebates, then S3 comes out 5/25 you would have to wait until after 6/3/06 to purchase it and you will not know if TiVo will have any rebates after 6/3/06. If they do and it applies to S3 your golden for your third rebate.

Since TiVo has specifically said that the Series 3 will not be released until the second half of the year it is impossible that it'll be released before the current rebate expires.
The absolute best case scenario for Series 3 release is July 1st. With a more realistic release date being sometime in September.

Is the rebate tied to the purchaser of the TiVo box, or to the subscriber of the service? Let's say I buy a TiVo for my brother, and then he activates the service and adds it to his account. Who should send in the rebate? I'm guessing I just give him the receipt and he sends it in?
The reason for the question is that I bought and activated two S2 DT units earlier this month. I bought a 3rd, but since there is a 2 rebate per house limit, it sounds like I can't send it in. Can I just give it to him to activate and submit? Then have him transfer to the box to me a couple months from now? It is a Humax DVD-R box that I am planning to put lifetime service on.

The buyer can get the rebate by sending in the box UPC code and sales receipt. It does not matter who owns the TiVo after, as long as its activated for more than 30 days. TiVo has no way to stop another person from buying you a TiVo and getting the rebate and give the rebate and TiVo to you. He does not even have to activate it under his name. If you planed that type of action by giving him the money to buy the TiVo it would against TiVo rules but I don't see how they could enforce it. Take you and the other guy to court over $150, I don't think so.

So, if I have my brother buy it (different residence), have him send in all of the rebate info, I activate it to my account and pay for the service portion, then that isn't violating any rules and the rebate should process without issue, correct? Then it is like he bought the hardware and gave it to me as a gift.

Correct that would work unless TiVo reads this post and sends a letter to your brother to sign that "under penalty of perjury" this was a gift to you and you did not pay him back for the TiVo.

Maybe it's not worth messing with and I'll just eat the rebate.
