Need Serious Help with Toshiba RX-TX20

I had a problem with a badly scratched DVD a few months ago. I put it in the DVD drive and didn't realize there was a problem until it would not play and it took me two hours to get it out of the DVD drive. I finally pushed a button at the right time and it popped out. I should have looked at it before I put it in , but I didn't. My question is ever since then when I record something through my TiVo it freezes up for a few seconds during playback. Also the unit will restart itself for no reason and sometimes several times a day. Could somebody tell me what to do? Does it sound like this thing is about to die?

It sounds like the hard drive is starting to go. If you are comfortable working inside a computer you can head over to the Upgrade Forum for instructions and tools to replace the hard drive yourself.

I would do this sooner than later since the symptoms you describe are those of a pending drive failure. These tools require the original drive for the TiVo software to be transferred to a new drive.
