What Causes Suggestions to Record?

I have my D*Tivo set to record suggestons and I did a test last night to see if a show would record as a suggestion. I gave a show 3 thumbs-up and the show was going to air at 10PM. I had nothing else scheduled to record at 10PM on either tuner, so I would have assumed the show would record as a suggestion but it did not. The only reason I can think of is that I had the tuner I was watching set to the channel the show was on, so I assume the Tivo thinks it doesn't need to record the show as a suggestion if I'm watching it. Will Tivo not record a show that you've given a positive rating to if you have the TV tuned to that show?

I beilieve the Tivo processes suggestions like late every night and then schedules them (although you can't see what (unless you have a hacked tivo with Tivo Web Plus).

I could be wrong so if someone has more info on the process please share...

and just because you give a program 3 thumbs up does not mean the TiVo will try to record it every time. I think the TiVo tries to record a certain number of suggestions a day. When it builds the list of suggestions it tries to schedule the highest ranked ones first. When you give a program a thumbs up it also gives the actors, director, genre, ... a thumbs up. Ranking is not just based on program name alone.

My TiVo records more suggestions when it has more space. A busy day will be 20 shows or so.

I was told it is the suggestion Fairy that lives in your tivo! You have to be careful though the suggestion fairy comes out of the tivo when you are assleep and taps into your brain.
