Remote working partially...

My remote now 'partially' works on my Samsung 40hour. The volume and power buttons don't work at all BUT when I press the buttons the red light blinks on the TiVO like it is trying to work.

The whole TiVO is pokey now as I haven't had a phone line hooked up in over a year *We just use cells for our phone calls now*. So hitting the List button takes awhile to pull it up. I've read here getting it updated may fix that problem but i'm wondering if the remote problem is possibly related or not.

I just ordered a new HD that i'm going to put in there...and hoping the whole unit isn't croaking! I'm still on 3 something firmware so going to take the unit to my sisters to upgrade to 6.2 first.

Thanks for any help!

Try a reboot. It fixes a lot of problems and, like a computer (which is basically what it is!), should be the first thing you do when troubleshooting.

Not making a phone call doesn't make it slow. My GXCEBOT hasn't made a call in 1,095 days and it's still running at the same slow speed as the day I got it.

The upgrade to 6.x will help with the speed.

I already have *I'm a computer guy so thats the first thing I tried*...i've unplugged and plugged her back in a few times. I attempted to update her this last weekend at my sisters house sans TV by leaving it there overnight but it didn't for some reason.

Ugh, hopefully it's the drive then...which i'm replacing as soon as I get updated. Would suck if the hardware itself is going and I just bought a new drive.

If the only thing not working is the vol, reenter your brands tv code. Yes, it always knows some brand of tv, but now just not yours.

The red light on the TiVo will blink when it receives almost any IR signal. But, the TiVo doesn't control the TV volume and power, the TV receives the IR directly from the TiVo remote. Make sure there isn't something in the way of line of sight to the TV.

Good thinking, Edmund, I totally spaced. Not sure WHY it'd lose my programming but that is possible...just lost my TV settings! I'll have to play around with it and see if I can get it programmed again for my TV...hopefully thats all that is wrong.

I know it's not an LOS issue as there is nothing between the TV and me standing in front of it. It's probably getting something, like you said, Jim, just not the right things.

I'll try re-programming the remote when I get home! Now if only I can find the manual. *grumbles* Thanks all!

None of the codes worked. I tried them each twice. I even did the 'remote clear' and that didn't help either. I even tried the 0999 and hit chanel up every 2-5 seconds with no luck either. I spent about an hour trying that.

UGH! If only I could go back in time a few years and bug the installer and see how the heck he got it working.

Did you do the following?

1. press and hold DTV & TV POWER, until the light remains on
2. enter 0-0-2-1

There is one model of toshiba that uses the LG code, give 0128 a try. When you enter these codes are you getting 3 blinks?

I didn't count the blinks but it goes from solid, to blinking a few times after I enter the codes, then it goes out.

I'll give that a try when I get home from work. Thanks!

What about the CR2032 battery on the motherboard of the Tivo? If it goes dead, wouldn't the unit lose its memory settings including what type of remote can access it?
