tivo says "a severe error has occured"
i lost my local channels, so i called up D* after talking to them for a while, i had to hang up with them (my son was crying), well they told me to unplug the unit and plug it back in, well i did, after everything came back up, it froze up. so i had to unplug and plug back in again and then after the welcome powering up screen, i get a green screen saying a severe error has occured, please leave the telephone line hooked up for the next 3 hours while the unit attempts to repair itself. well im lettting it do that now, but i dont think that will do any good, since my tivos are zippered, what do i do? please help.

One of my D* Tivos gets that Green Screen of Death every few weeks. I never believe it will fix itself, but so far it always has. I'm waiting for the day it doesn't, and I'll be so sad. So just leave it alone, walk away, and come back later. Maybe it will be all better.

If after waiting a few hours, it doesn't come back up, it's time for a new hard drive. Since you've zippered yours, you should be familiar with the hinsdale guide and the zipper guide.

have faith in the green ! just the other day plugged in the T60 after it being out for 2 weeks and it did the looping welcome powering up screen. Took it apart, reseated stuff, then it worked....but then when i put the cover back on and rebooted...it did a green screen
fixed in less than 3 hours though

Just to add to the database of knowledge here:
I noticed the Record Light on the box would be lit only if two shows were being recorded. I thought a simple reboot might be in order. The first reboot became stuck at "Powering up..." The second time, the box looped through a couple of "Powering up"s on its own before giving the Green Screen of Severe Error. A mere 15 minutes later it rebooted and everything worked, including the record light.
I gather the Green Screen is not necessarily indicative of larger problems that will eventually kill the hard drives or the box itself.
