Any VideoReDo Experts Out There? Joining Problem...

I've seen talk around these parts about a program called "VideoReDo", so I decided to give it a try.

It's an excellent program, straightforward, easy to use, does what it says...allows for easy video edits and saves. This is one of the FEW downloadable software programs of its kind that I can say I'd actually deem worth buying.

But I'm having a problem. I've created 3 video .mpg segements using VRD, and they seem to have come out fine. I am trying to join these 3 videos (segments) together. I load them up into the joiner edit list, them I choose "Create Video from Joiner List" from the Joiner menu. Output starts, but then when it finishes, I am left with just a copy of the FIRST video in the joiner list. The other 2 parts never get joined!

I've tried this 3 times with the same damn result.

Any idea if this is a limitation of the trial version or if there's something I overlooked?

I've also posted this on the VRD forums, but honestly I figure more people here are probably using this program, and this site has much more traffic than the VRD site and I'm trying to find a quick explanation.

Thanks!

Not sure what to say other than it works for me. I do have the full version.

Wasn't the demo limited to creating 30 minutes videos? Is that the problem?

Thanks for the quick answer Greg.

I thought maybe that was it, so I read virtually the whole help file, and the whole website, and the forums...trying to find a list of the limitations of the demo version...if any. But I can't find where it says that anywhere.

I want to actually register the program, but I'd rather know that I can join files before I do.

Maybe I should at least request the "trial key", and see if that helps...

That sounds familiar. I think without the trial key, there is a 30 minute limit. Then with the key you have x number of days.

Try just editing a single 1 hour video (just add the whole thing to the scene list) and saving the output. You can find out pretty quick if it truncates it to 30 minutes without the key.

Oops. I'm stupid. I should have requested the trial key before I posted. Once I installed the trial key, it lets me join the parts into a 48 minute segement. Apparently when you use the program without the trial key, it processes as normal, it just doesn't tell you you are limited to 30 minutes of video.

Really though, I didn't find any info about this limitation. They really should make this more clear somewhere, in the help file or on the website.

On a related note, one thing I'm also having a problem with.

At the very top of my videos, I'm seeing a "noise bar". Really thin, narrow bar going horizontally across the top of the video on the finished MPG output. It has a flickering effect. Come to think of it, I think I might be seeing it when viewing the raw TiVo series 2 video as well.

Anyone know what is causing this, or how to correct it?

I've heard that that bar was the closed captioning info. But recently somebody claimed it was for something else, but I don't recall what for the life of me.

Up side is, you won't see it on your TV due to overscan.

That "noise bar" is the VBI stream. It contains closed captioning as well as specialized data such as Macrovision tags and the data TiVo uses to create those "Press Thumbs Up to Record" icons. Like Greg said they don't show up on your TV due to overscan. Some PC software will also create a virtual overscan area to hide this as well. Unfortunately WMP is not one of them.
