Question with SDDVR 40

Hi,

I have a SD DVR40 Hughes brand, and about a week ago A service person was out, informed us our brand was going out, and needed upgrading since then I have been sent a replacement , However My unit I have that is going out is a year 2004 the one sent was a 2003 and found out it was defected, then sent another one year 2002, the problem is rainbow effects in the writing and the wording is very blurred. Hard to read. I was reading in some of the posts that this is a common problem. How can I fix it?
Any and all advice I would REALLY like. and Hurry

No, this is not a common problem with the DirecTV TiVo DVRs. What kind of video cable do you use to connect the DVR to the TV? S-Video (round shell with four pins)? Composite (yellow plug)? RF (black wire with screw-on connector)?

What was wrong with your original TiVo?

You talk about rainbow effects and blurred wording - is this during scrolling titles at the end of a movie or show? That's rather common and due to the compression DirecTV uses. I can't think of any flaw in the TiVo itself that would affect this.

You may want to try a different S-Video cable. Some are poor quality and can cause image problems. Don't spend more than $20 on a cable.
