Used unit, hard reset?

i went today and picked up a 40hr open box unit(all they had left) from Fry's. When i got home and hooked it up, it looks like someone already used it and has some shows recorded on it, as well as a parental lock code.

Is there a way to hard reset the unit so that i can get rid of the lock code. Also does it make sense to buy a used unit? I got $20 off of the $145 price but if it's going to cause me a lot of problems i might as well find a new unit.
any suggestions?

Reimaging the hard drive will fix your problem, but under the circumstances I would take it back.

and that's the only way? i'd rather not mess with it then.. the 20 off is not worth it. My biggest issue is getting the 150 rebate and being able to activate the lifetime sub before 4/15

A Clear and Delete Everything should get rid of everything and start you back at factory settings.

Does a Clear and Delete Everything not ask for a parental code? Seems like a bit of a hole in the system for an industrious kid if not.

Uner Messaged And Setup>Reser or Restart the recorder.

Removing the battery won't help.

You can call customer support and they can reset the parental lock for you the next time it connects to the service.
