Star Trek 2.0 ??

I just noticed Star Trek original series is starting up on "G4". But then I see this Star Trek 2.0 a week later. Anyone know what this is all about. I've looked on the G4 web page but doesn't really say what it is.

I hope it's Star Trek movies that are multiples of 2.0. Those were awesome.

They are rerunning TOS. I am hopeful that the "2.0" moniker means some combination of uncut, in order, uncompressed. I can't wait to introduce my boys to the original.

The 2.0 is TOS with a wrap around it with a star trek stock market, chat windows and trivia stuff in the windows.

The way you phrased that gave me a mental picture of you in your recliner, sans pants letting "the boys" watch Star Trek.

Children... ya meant children.

Yeah, I agree, the young Indies must know the joys of Tribbles, Goatee Spock and Gene Roddenberry's hot wife.

I've never seen G4. What is it?

You're serious that they're going to have crap all over the screen?

G4 used to be a Video Game network that bought/merged with TechTV. Slowly it's become more of a Spike style network. Putting all kinds of crap on the screen is not new for them.

If you really want to introduce your children to Star Trek, you'd be better off setting up a netflix account and adding just the Star Trek TOS DVDs to the queue.

I wanted to, but they only have the old 2 episodes/disc version. I was hoping to rent the new transfers with 4/disc. But I can't find them to rent anywhere.

Here are some patch notes to help explain the 2.0 version.

===================
Star Trek 2.0 Patch Notes
===================

Captain Kirk

- All speech delays have been increased by an additional 2 seconds, to perform as originally intended. This provides a much more theatrical dramatic tone when faced with danger.

- Charisma modifiers have been increased by +10

Spock

- The EYEBROW.DLL file has been replaced to provide a dramatically increased height, allowing it to function as initially intended. This also allows the eyebrow to function as a radar, capable of detecting cloaked Romulan vessels.

- The HomoEroticism registry key has been reset to zero.

- The SPOCKSBRAIN.DLL file has been set to read-only, to prevent accidental or intentional removal. This file is critical to system functions and should not be altered under any circumstance.

Chekhov

- The HKEY_LOCALUSER\Chekhov\Languages\Russian-English registry key has been reset to factory defaults. This allows for even zanier usage of the term "Wessel" when placed on the bridge.

- The HKEY_LOCALUSER\Chekhov\Appearance key has been upgraded to provide additional appearance functionality. Now, Chekhov can also appear as a clone of Peter Tork in addition to his existing Davey Jones look.

Uhura

- The UHURA.INI has been modified to list "DIALOGUE=2". This will give Uhura the ability to speak for more than 3 sentences at a time, as originally intended.

- The UHURA.INI file has also been modified to list "HAIR=3", giving Uhura much larger hair styles. Consequently, the BRIDGE.BAT file has been updated to increase the height of the ceiling

- Due to the overwhelming response from viewers, UHURA.INI now also has a "Miniskirt" option, to toggle the length of her attire.

Sulu

- Various changes made to the SULU.EXE file which provide greater depth of dialogue and interaction with associated crew members. New phrases include "Set phasers to FABULOUS!", "Captain, there's a large object coming towards us at a high velocity", and "Captain, sensors are picking up a large disturbance, coming up fast from the rear".

- Increased the SwordFighting modifier by a factor of two.

Dr. McCoy

- Additional medical subroutines include complete cures for Meningitis, Hepatitis, Herpes, and other STDs, which will compensate for the +10 Charisma modifier given to Captain Kirk with this patch.

- Mirror Universe McCoy no longer has the option for a white moustache/beard, to avoid potential lawsuits due to a resemblance to Colonel Sanders.

Scotty

- Increased stability in the Scotty boot sequence will now allow his accent to function as intended. This will prevent the previously reported changes which were causing instability in the accent.

- Due to a recent injunction from the PTC, Scotty no longer has the option for wearing a kilt or performing Lord of the Dance in the warp core.

Non-crew updates

- All red shirt uniforms have been updated to provide an Armor value of 0, and creation of this armor will now be provided by Target. This provides potential enemies with a targetting zone, minimizing the amount of ammunition consumed during a firefight.

- The science station viewer now has additional kaleidoscope effects

- Previously loud keys in the Navigation and Operations section have been replaced with the Dell QuietKey Keyboards.

- Giant glass dome over the bridge has been replaced with something far less fragile, to prevent potential enemies from targetting the most important section of the ship and destroying it in a single shot.

- Omega 13 device has been reset to factory defaults.

- Swirly effects in warp nacelles have been updated with newer, more fancy swirly effects.

Indy, introducing your boys to Star Trek is a very worthy cause.

Send me your address and I'll lend you my Star Trek TOS DVD set. I bought the complete three-season set last year when it was a "mere" $200 during the Deep Discount DVD sale.

Just... uh... don't lose them, okay?

G4 is showing the 2.0 episodes on weekdays. On weekends, I believe they are showing plain old, uncut episodes. There are even two different titles in the TiVo guide data.

I realize it's lame, and I'm not going to watch....

But what the heck is a "Spock Market"?! Are they going to have people bidding on the value of something, or will it just be some manufactured crapola?

EDIT: I googled the answer:

Quote:
LIVE online chats during the episodes will be available and something unique called "Spock Market," a stock market simulation that turns watching Trek into a real time interactive investment game will be added. Here is an idea of how it works:

As an episode is being watched the viewers are given credits to buy and sell stock in companies and characters associated with the show. A real time wall street style stock ticker will run across the screen. Viewer's interest in a particular scene can be measured by the rise and fall of the stock of that scene or the character in it.

I was looking forward to this when it was first announced, even though I recently picked up all of TOS on DVD. Then I saw the trailers. It may be a fun way to watch an TOS episode for the 6th time, but certainly not the first.

Hell, I can't even watch TNG with all the garbage Spike puts on it. This looks much worse.

I do like my campy TOS episodes once in awhile. Watched "Conscience of the King" last night and was grinning the whole time.

I'm waiting for TAS to come out so I can watch the whole franchise in order. I've reserved it some slots in the DVD changer. Though I still need to contact Paramount and get a replacement DVD for the one that was missing in the TNG packaging.

What exactly is funny about a guy in his mid-30's scamming on a psychotic 19 yr old with a hyper-exaggerated Elektra complex?
