Why is SpongeBob so bad now?
Older episodes seem so much funnier. The newer stuff seems forced.

My guess is that it's because there is really isn't a lot of depth to the humor and you can only make so many jokes about Sponebob's innocence or Mr. Krab's love of money or Patrick's stupidity.
Plus, they seem to do special episodes that are longer and I don't think that is a good thing for this show. The short segments work better.
The medieval one recently was amusing, but would have been better much shorter.
I watch by myself. There is no excuse for me.

Any new episode is a good episode I can only take so much more spongebob. If I have to watch dying for pie one more time. Yesterday I had to watch the Movie 2 times in a row.
Of course I could be like one of the parents at my kids daycare who wont let their kid watch spongebob because he promotes being gay

just saw the movie on hbo....just thought it was avg
the gay thing is hilarious....i love when people bring that up...i guess i'm so stupid i dont see it..or i just dont care...nothing he does is within my 'stereotype' of a gay sponge..sorry...and so what if he is? it's not like he's ******* patrick under his shell or anything

There are so many great old episodes (Bubblestand; "Bring it arooooooooooound town!") that I've had a harder time watching the new ones...they just aren't the same.

I agree! But, what is it about the new ones?
Are they using a new voice for SpongeBob?
(Love Mermaidman & Barnacleboy episodes)

IMO, that's what killed the movie (which I took my wife--and no kids--to) for me. Spongebob is one of those joys that works great in a small package. You invest 5 or 10 minutes into it, get some laughs, and go do something else. 60-90 minutes of ONE Spongebob story? That's way too much.

I took my Dad to the movie which was his first exposure ever to Spongebob, so I'm sure he thinks I'm even more nuts for watching the show, because the movie was not it's finest hour.
I love the Bubblestand episode. Actually, most of the older episodes. I have Season 1 on DVD, I should break it out and relive the glory days I actually have a Spongebob license plate holder on my car that says "Bring it Around Town". And the episode when Squidward moves to the community with just squids and buys canned bread? Classic stuff.

I think the squidwardtown one actually taught kids something. Getting what you want isn't always what you really want
