Who Wants to Be a Deal Or No Deal?
Let me preface this that I do not regularly watch Deal or No Deal. I have seen snippets of it, and that is pretty much it. I am just a bit fascinated by how the show has continued to expand its presence, much in the same way Who Wants to Be a Millionaire did on ABC years ago, until it imploded.
First there was a special week long run of the show two sweeps ago. Then it came back last sweeps and never left. After its second week long I believe it then was on monday nights. Shortly Friday nights were added, and then Wednesday nights. Now I see at least one of these nights is now 2 hours.
Part of me likes the idea of some shows running multiple nights and having an expanded presence, and part of me thinks it is just going to burn people out. Deal or No Deal is not exactly a high concept game show, so maybe that will help or hinder it.
Anyways, am I the only one to draw the Who Want's to Be a Millionaire overexposure comparison or is this something other people see as a strong possibility?

The original plan was for it to be on once a week after it's initial week long run. But then they figured they would get more mileage out of it by running it more often. Sure it will burn out rather quickly but for now it has ratings it wouldn't have received had it been on just once a week.

You are exactly right. The show was fun when it was a special event. When it's on even once a week, now several nights even with several hours it is too much. And this show doesn't even have the skill aspect that Millionaire had. It's really about luck and whether or not to take calculated risks. They almost need more rules to keep it interesting because it's going to wear thin -- fast.

i could never qualify as one of the idiots on there....jumping up and down over the drop of a feather. Bringing along uncle harry because you can't make a decision yourself?
on the other hand if they told me i could be myself...i'd be on that show in a minute And the episode would take perhaps 4 minutes tops.

For sure, the more they play this show, the sooner it will get to be tiring.
I watch occasionally, and it is okay, but I don't see what all the hype is.

They should get the models more involved. After it burns out on network TV it can move to cable and the "deals" can get more interesting.

I hope it gets canceled and replaced by Stanley Spadowski's "Wheel of Fish".

Sort of like the recent "$ and a Hummer" deal?

I believe DorND has a little more staying power because it utilizes more on the reality show aspect. Where some game shows depend on a person's skill, DorND is more of a guessing game and success can depend on getting out at the right time. There's something interesting in watching contestants get greedy only to end up losing $100K.

Both Howie and the contestant appeared to be trying their best to hold back the smirks.
"You could get a lot of hummers for that much money."

I watched it during the commercial breaks last night while "24" was on and noticed that the models actually got to say a few sentences. This seemed to be a change from the original shows.
This show might last quite a while: No talent or intelligence is required and anyone who gets on is almost guaranteed to win thousands of dollars. All you need to have to be is semi-attractive and have an interesting personality
Except for the super ugly and/or the super boring, most people can fantasize about being on the show.

and not be greedy. I love when people are knocked down after refusing amounts like over 200K and they say, no deal. Then have to walk away with around 40K or something.
You are definitely right they dont look for intelligence...they more care about someone whooping it up

I watched this show once. The stupid woman with her whole idiot family egging her on turned down $16000 when nearly all the right (high) side of the board was already gone. She ended up with, IIRC, $750.

Well just the other night.... the family was telling her all night "No Deal"
She took the deal for $250k or something like that... she had $400k in her case...
You are going to have it both ways... soe that walk out with a ton of cash, some that don't.
It is first a game of luck, but then you then have to play the odds... keep your head straight and have some good luck, you could easily get 100k
I liked tonights, the Guy with the 44k and the Pony.... Speaking as a father to a young kid.... that pony is worth a million bucks... too bad it will probably cost the $44k to take care of that pony though.... but even if was for the weekend...
Anyway... I am finding my self miffed that I have to waith till Monday to see what is the next case for the current contest... she has only 1 case left under $5k, and still has the $1,000,000 in play.
I would LOVE the chance to be on the show... at off all the game shows out there... this one you probably have the most control over (IMHO)

I agree. I was a huge fan of Who Wants.......Millionaire but it really got old at the end because the questions seemed to get harder and NOBODY was winning any money. Very boring.
But with this show, anybody can make good money. It's fun to watch greedy people make stupid decisions and get screwed, and also fun to watch nice people make smart ones and be rewarded. I think the show will be around for a while.

Have you seen the app for it? Absolutely ridiculous questions, even moreso than the various reality show applications.

I know....
Hence why anyone has a much better chance of being on Whell of Fortune or Price is Right...
I don't understand why it has to be like that.
Simple questions....
Do you know how to pick a number 1 - 26
Do you know how much $1,000,000 is worth?
Can you say the words Deal or No-Deal
I saw the lines for the "try=outs" on the two hours special... that is just crazy.

I'm not sure if playing the show multiple times a week will contribute to it burning out faster or not. I think it will run its course in a certain amound of time whether it plays once, twice, or three times per week. NBC might as well get as much out of it as they can while it's hot.
And for the record, I'd jump up and down and act like an idiot for several thousand dollars.

They should start offering prizes in addition to the money as bonuses. Like trips and cars and such. Such as... (especially if the contestant is agonizing between "deal" and "no deal") "In ADDITION to the 78,000, we'll throw in a week long, all expense paid trip to Hawaii for you and your family." Stuff like that might make it a bit more interesting.
