Humax DRT800--DVD burner has died

I have had the Humax DRT 800 since December 2004. After burning about 400 DVDs from TiVo-recorded shows, the DVD burner isn't working anymore. I get an "internal error" and "disk burning failed" about 80% into the burning process. Am I correct in assuming that I've gotten the most life I can get out of the DVD burner and will have to get a new Humax? I have no idea where I could go to get this fixed, and I suspect the cost would be prohibitive. Any help/tales of experience with this would be appreciated.

Have you tried the basic troubleshooting tips? Restart from menu, or hard restart (unplug machine and phone line for 5 min)?

I had my DRT 800 opened up last week, it's a Pioneer drive and doesn't look like it'd be too hard to replace if you can locate an OEM equivilant.

Call Humax and tell them about the problem. They have been replacing units even if it is out of warranty.

This was going to be my next choice if the reboot failed. Humax has had a LOT of quality control issues and is pretty good about exchanges.

Thanks to all for their help. I had previously tried restarting to no effect, but I did it one more time (thanks, HIHZia) and yielded one successful burn then 3 bad burns in a row. So I called Humax and was given a no-hassle return offer with two options -- send the unit back and they would replace it, or keep the unit until a new one arrives (they put a $500 credit card hold to be released upon their receipt of the faulty unit within 30 days). I opted for the latter, with the new unit supposed to arrive within 7--10 days. I must say I'm impressed since my unit is out of warranty.

There are several shows I have saved on this unit that I would like to burn to DVD, but I believe there's a way to transfer them to the new unit when it comes and then burn them from there, yes?

Thanks again to all who offered help. What a great bunch!
