No wired DSL no phone...need to connect using wireless DSL

This one might be a strange one......

I just cancelled my DSL and my home phone. I was connecting my Version 2 TIVO wirelsses over a Linksys USB Adapter to my Linksys router. Well now with DSL and phone gone, obviously I need to update my TIVO. Well the kicker is I have DSL but it is on my laptop, through a Verzion Wirelss Broadband card, which is not true DSL speed, but it is not too bad. I figured that I should be able to connect the TIVO directly to the laptop and update the service. Well it failed, so I am trying to find out if anyone else has tried this or might have any suggestions on how to make this work (besides taking my TIVO to a neighbors house and using thier phone )

Here is how I did it:
I disconnected the USB from the TIVO to the LINKSYS USB Network adapter. I plugged in a Belkin USB/Ethernet adapter to the TIVO and connected my laptop using a Ethernet Crossover cable. After doing this I restarted the TIVO and the laptop. On the laptop, under network connections, I changed the Verizon connection to "Sharing". On the TIVO, I changed my network settings from the old IP address of my router to a static IP address for the laptop as well as the gateway and DNS. I get a link light on both the laptop and the Belkin. I try to connect the TIVO to the laptop and it goes through "Preparing" successfully, then it gets to "Connecting" and it fails when it gets to the "Negotiating" part of Connecting. When it fails it gives me N18 error message.

I am hoping that I am just missing some simple step. I have been trying it for the last two nights and I am completely out of programming and I am very frustrated.

Please help!!! Thanks!!!

I forget who makes it and how much it costs, but there's a router out there with a pcmcia slot for the verizon card.
Might be a decent solution for you.

Yeah, it is about $300 and it is so new, there are bugs galore. But I am not sure how that would be better than connecting the TIVO directly to the laptop.
