American Idol 3/7/06 (Girls)
This is painful watching live in a hotel room. Where's my tivo!
Paris: At least she is dressed a bit better, though not by much. She looks much older. The song was average but like randy said, she's mixing it up so she can do no wrong.
Lisa: as usually the crowd goes nuts just for high, long notes. Is that really such a big deal? I didn't hear anything wrong with it though. She'll probably make it thru this week
Mel: can't get enough of the gravel hated her hair though (from the front looked bad). I know they only have a few seconds to sing but I thought it was too short for some reason even in that time limit. If simon thinks one note was her plane ticket home he's really nuts. America doesn't give a crap about in tune!
Kinnik: not a thing wrong with the song, these girls have been practicing. Of course the judges dont agree with me so they must be right Paula acted like her grandmother died or something. Pretty mean as it wasn't 'that' bad.
Kathy: good to know she's not pregnant..who makes up this stuff? While i'm happy she stopped wearing floods, I thought something more than jeans would be appropriate at this stage of the game. I think she may have been trying to get votes via an uncooperative bra. But hey whatever works. I do like songs where even I know the words. Freedom.....The giddy schoolgirl thing at the end was pretty cute. As was her sister in the audience. Someone I like may actually have a chance at this thing.
Ayla: they beginning of that was horrible. And ugh those shorts/pants/floods whatever they call them...Well she looked like she belonged on the Croc hunter ...But that's for another thread. Just was below the rest of the girls tonight.
Mandisa thumb sucker: Well I dont know the song all that well but didn't like all that yelling and screaming. If it's part of the song I dont blame her though. Just not my thing. Let simon rewind it on his tivo.
Kathy's roomie Kel: Yea her dog listens real well She's milking the innocent thing and winning. song was pretty good. naughty minx eh?

I think I'd be perfectly OK seeing Pickler and Paris go home.
My ears are bleeding after Pickler's performance, and seeing her hip thrusts were laughable.

I liked Katharine and Mandisa and thought everyone else was just okay or worse. Picks for going home: Kinnik and Melissa.

I agree with Paula and Simon.
She's not the best singer, but Kelli is soo cute. I am in love with her.
Mandisa was obviously the best singer. She's a pro and all the rest were amateurs.
But Mandisa will never win. It sucks to say, but she's just too fat. I'm not saying she shouldn't win because of that, I'm saying in a call in contest, when it comes down to it, she won't.
Ayala and Kinnik are going home.

And the sad thing is that Reuben (where-the-hell-is-he-now?) could win with almost as much weight.
Mandisa was the cream of the crop with McPhee a distant second. The rest were forgettable (which is sad as I like Paris's personality)

Reuben didn't really win, that was before they added extra lines for voting and they were maxing the capacity of voters. It wasn't a fair vote, and at this point I think it's safe to say that Clay actually won that one....

It was very bad. She missed most the song. She knew it.

I think Kinnik and Melissa are going home (my wife thinks Kinnik and Ayala are going) I would not be surprised to see Paris go - we didn't like her performance at all, but the judges didn't seem to mind it.

The point wasn't if Reuben won legit or not... just that a guy with a weight issue probably can go further than a woman with a weight issue (regarless of talent)

I liked Katharine and Kellie tonight. I'm sure Mandisa sang that song well, but I just cannot stand that song. The rest should have stayed home.

And, obviously listening on a hotel TV speaker has distorted your judgement. I think I pretty much disagreed with everything you wrote.
Mandisa was far and away the best. Followed by McPhee-ver.
Kinnick, who I liked thus far was horrible she was so off key it hurt.

Sounds like I'm going with the flow here, but Mandisa was far and away the best of the night. Katherine was second. The rest weren't close. Paris was ok. She's got personality. Melissa had an acceptible showing too.
I also noticed the "bouncy" McPhee at the very beginning and the first thing to cross my mind was "Hmm... no question whose votes she's looking for tonight."
I agree that Mandisa will probably not win the contest, though she's proving herself to be incredibly talented and very personable. I look forward to hearing her sing every week.
It sucks that Kinnik had such a bad night. It was like nails on a chalkboard. And unfortunately, she'll probably go because of it. Also going? I'm gonna root for Ayla to head out this week too.

Wow, am I the only one who thought Pickler was completely off???? Gotta agree, though, that she's just so darn cute ("SaLLLmon") that I don't mind her going a little further.
Mandisa far outclassed everyone else, but unlike others I do like that song. I think Simon was dead on for this one.
McPhee was great, but not as good as Aretha. Of course, there aren't too many who are. I liked the different arrangement.
Lisa has an excellent voice and sings those pop ballads that so many seem to like on the radio (even if I can't stand them).
Paris was not good, but her voice deserves a second chance.
The rest were forgettable and I agreed with Simon about all of them. He DOES say exactly what we say when watching it!

Paris - bad song choice that contained too many pitch changes for her vocal range
Lisa - wows the audience with too many high notes and not enough substance; one of the worst of the night, IMHO
Melissa - were there mic problems at the start? It felt too short with a very sour ending.
Kinnik - very off key; she seemed conservative and uncomfortable, especially with her high notes
Katharine - she needs more stage presence, otherwise she was wonderful
Ayla - it was an odd song choice; though she says she wants to branch out, I think she'd be safer sticking with the ballads
Mandisa - a fine performance, but I think she's beginning to develop Lisa syndrome
Kellie - I could barely hear her over the band, and what I could hear was absolutely dreadful
2 thumbs up: Katharine
1 thumb up: Mandisa
NEUTRAL: Ayla
1 thumb down: Paris, Lisa
2 thumbs down: Melissa, Kinnik, Kellie
Going home: Paris, Melissa

Ok, 2 shows in a row the local affiliate here did not broadcast the show in 5.1, grrr. How can you broadcast the show in HDTV, but no 5.1 surround?
I think it's pretty obvious that Kinnik's going hom, and possible Melissa. I agree with most on here that Kelie is milking the innocent routine, and I'd like to see her go, but I just don't see her getting the 2 fewest votes this week.
Kathrine, Ayla and Mandessa are the top 3 girls in this competition.

Loved that one young girl (the one who had the famous grandmother that sung with the "sounds of blackness"..) She was awesome...I can see her going a long way...except for the fact that she is so young.

Ayla was pretty bad. Mandisa was pretty good. And I dont remember how McPhee sounded, I was too focused on the screen to use my ears . I'm in Cali so I havent seen pickler yet.

She's really good but the song wasnt right for her tonight... she's done better. I like Paris (mentioned above), McPhee, and Mandisa for the top 3... given that Paris picks songs that fit her range). I would really like Pickler up there but I dont think she has the vocals for it... unless we vote her in.

Katherine McPhee's boobs were freaking me out... has she had a boob job since last week? Those sure were bouncy things.
Lisa looks like she is in pain when she sings... childbirthin' faces.
Mandisa didn't do it for me tonight, but oh well.
I love Kellie Pickler, but the vocals were not great. But in all honesty, take the current crop of pop singers and how many of those have perfect vocals? Being a "pop idol" is more than just vocals.
Bottom two? Lisa and Kinnik

Lisa looks hawt with straight hair, but she looked unfomfortable/out of place for some reason.
McPhee phreaks me out too, but a good phreak ;D She prolly stuffed, but thats ok. She sure knew how to draw attention to them, she might have gone to a strip club within the past week.

Sorry, I just don't like Mandisa. I just feel she completely oversings the songs, to the point of yelling them. Admittadly, there's a fair number of people on this show that need more power, but she overkills it.
Paris bugs me. She picks these songs that I just don't feel fit her at all, and I think it's going to cost her sooner rather than later. Maybe if she was 5-10 years older I could buy it, but I just don't now.
I don't know that anyone overly wowed me tonight. I'd tend to say Kinnik, Lisa, and Paris are all in danger of going this week. Mandisa's probably safe because nobody else agrees with me on her, but I don't know that I'd be shocked if anyone else was eliminated.

Should go home = Kellie - cute does not overweigh bad singing 2 weeks in a row
Should go home = Kinnik - good song choice, very bad execution
(uh oh, starting to sound like Simon)
Could go home = Melissa - just don't like her in the grand scheme
Could go home = Paris - although she was less "old", wasn't impressed with her version of Conga
Ayla and Lisa were just OK.
Mandisa was a little over the top vocally, but blew the others away (Simon was right)
Katherine was still good.
Will go home = Kinnik and Melissa.

I know that Mandisa and "McPhever" will be going on! Kathy McPhee's boobies are just fine! Kinnick and probably Ayla will be performing on Thursday.
How about the shout out for TiVo from Simon!

Katherine's breasts have always been large(huge) if you look back at all the episodes. If she wanted everyone to vote for her because of them, she would have worn something more revealing... I'm up for that.

And what about Simon saying Kelli is better than Carrie Underwood. Yeah, Kelli may have more spunk in her than Carrie, but Carrie has great vocals and a killer CD out right now. I can listen to it from beginning to end and not skip any tracks.
I challenge Kelli Pickler to sing Jesus Take the Wheel and not miss any of the high notes.
That being said, Pick Pickler!

I continue to like Katherine. She is by far the most effortless one who consistently hits all the notes and gets the songs across. And her smile lights up the place. Stage prescence - yes room for improvement, but isn't this for a recording contract, not a live show commitment? To me it is inconsequential.
As far as Mandisa, it is tiresome hearing everyone buy into the screechfest which pinnacles at the high note. Are they that shallow? What about the first half of the song with all backup singers and her (sounded like a chorus). Disco songs, for me, are not be a great barometer of singing talent.
Yes, she can sing, but if she wins where will her music end up - your local top 40 station, with the conglomeration of rap, pseudo alt rock (Nickleback, Weezer, Fall Out Boy) and Kelly Clarkson? Probably not. And isn't this what it's really about - top 40 American Idol? If not, where's the crooner? He can sing but his style does not fit what AI is looking for, which is current popular music, or top 40.
Paris and Kennik were just bad and should be the ones going home. There was nothing redeeming about either performance.
Lisa, Ayla, Melissa & Kellie were all OK, but nothing great.
