Is this ok?
since it's not cool to discuss "extracting" programming off of a Directv R10, or any other dvr for that matter on this site, is it ok for me to ask people here, where I can look for such information?

I heard somewhere DEAL DATABASE dot COM or somthing like that at least once. Although I have never taken that route as a regular DVD recorder works perfectly fine. You could actually record to DVD and stick that puppy in you PC from what I hear.
But to each their own...

pianoboy, I'm not sure why so many people were jumping on you about video extraction in those threads. From my understanding, you were simply wanting to record your programs to your computer using your computer's capture card, correct?
If so, there's absolutely nothing wrong with talking about that here. I think those people were a little quick to jump the gun.

you are correct. I was asking about capturing my recordings via my capture card. I was really just seeing if anyone had any suggestions concerning what software to use. I really just want one program that can capture the recording (via analog inputs on the front of my pc) , allow me to edit some things in the recording, shrink the file to a small enough size to fit onto a dvd, and then burn the dvd. A do it all program if you will.

Oh. I guess I was confused because most computers ship with software that does this these days. Does your computer have any of the OEM "moviemaker" programs installed? There are a bunch of them on the market.
I haven't fooled around with them much.
Sorry to misunderstand your question on another thread. I thought you wanted to make a digital copy since I didn't see making an analog copy as anything challenging. I, for one, certainly did not mean to jump on you because I didn't see it as doing anything wrong. I just knew that it couldn't be done.

Looking at those other threads by the OP, it seems that a few replies veered it toward the extraction theme. He just wanted to know what software to use for capturing and burning on his PC.
Pianoboy000, if you have a Windows XP PC, it comes with Windows Movie Maker. It is rudimentary, but it is a way to start.
