Please Help Me Improve Suggestions

I've always kept suggestions on, partly as a FSI and partly in hopes that I'll discover some good new stuff.

Unfortunately, the feature doesn't work as I hoped it would. Instead of suggesting things I might like, it's just recording things I've already seen and rated "thumbs up."

It keeps recording the same previously rated movies over and over, instead of any of the hundreds of other similar movies available on the channels I receive. Same with series.

Those of you who have your Tivo "trained" to your satisfaction, how did you get it to suggest new things?

I would make sure that you're only using one thumb up and down for each one you've rated. The trick is to not be super thumby one way or the other, as that can affect tons of other shows.

My suggestions have been much better since I've used the thumb button more often but less harshly.

You could try resetting the thumb data and starting over, too.

I will keep that in mind, but I'm pretty conservative with my thumbs. I'd say 90% of the movies my TiVo "suggests" are movies I've already seen and given a one-thumb-up rating.
