How I Met Your Mother - "Game Night" - 2/27 (SPOILERS AHOY!)
Game Night, a.k.a: Origin of Barney.
"Slut Alert!"
"To the Cab!"... okay, Sanjit was very clearly unsteady on his feet as they were leaving the bar; he totally DWI'd.
Great episode!

Eh. I thought it was kind of "eh".
Sure, we got to see the genesis of "legendary!" and "suit up", but overall I didn't get the same kick out of the show I usually get.
Although I did love how Barney-98 kept pronouncing "Nicaragua" ...

I'm a little curious where this is going. The narrator's refusal to tell his children Victoria's embarrassing story - considering everything the kids have been told so far - would seem to indicate that Victoria is the mother. Anyone catch the same thing?

I had thought that Barney was going to reveal that he set the whole thing up by making sure that Shannon gave Lily the tape...all to get Ted to tell his story...

No. I took it to mean that they didn't have enough time in the 22 minutes to tell another story so that went with that to get a quick laugh.
You must be one of the LOST people.
I thought it was a great episode.

I took it to mean that it was just a really lurid story involving all kinds of deviant acts that he'd rather not expose his kids to.

I enjoyed this one a little less than other episodes, but what KILLS me is the number of commercial breaks they throw in. I don't know if this is common, because this is the only CBS sitcom/half hour show I watch. If NBC do it on Scrubs, I don't notice.

Nope, too dumb to get wrapped up in the Lost discussions (love the show though), so I look for hidden meanings in sitcoms. Maybe if they'd just tell us who the damn mother is already!

I thought the first 5 minutes of this episode were hilarious. The middle was okay, but the end was back to greatness. Any Barney-centric episide is golden in my book.

Yeah, a whole heck of a lot of commercials in this episode. I think they might have spaced them out into shorter blocks, ending with each embarrassing revelation by Barney. Overall I thought this was a pretty weak episode.

I mentioned the same thing to my wife. It seemed as if they were taking very short commercial breaks but they were taking them every couple of minutes. Was very distracting to the flow of the story.
I also thought the whole thing was going to be a setup by Barney to get Ted to tell the story.

I wouldn't say it was my favorite episode, but yes .. any Barney-centric episode is inherently .. dare I say it .. Awesome.
I thought for a while that the whole "Barney 98" story was going to be BS and it was all a ruse to get Ted to tell the re-returner story, but I'm more than satisfied with this as an "origin of Barney" story. I liked the little details; Barney was actually listening (and absorbed) the rules of Marshall's game (and the inclusion of Candyland as one of the greatest games of all time, oddly enough that was the 2nd show in the SAME DAY to say that), and how he had all the game pieces with him at the bar. And of course, "Leg Warehouse?"
I wasn't watching this at the start, but I'm a fully converted fan now.

I like this show but WHERE is it going? How long can you go on the premise without finding out who the kid's mom is? When they do find out is the show over?

That's exactly my problem with the show. I don't mind cliffhangers in hour-long dramas, but I tune in to a sitcom for laughs, not for a constant "keep me hanging" feeling. They need to tell us who the mom is, and soon.

I really liked the crying hippy Barney. It was just such an unexpected twist.

Loved the homage to Darth Vader's transformation - complete with black pinstriped suit.

Very funny episode... Leg Warehouse !!!!!!! I never thought I'd say this but "Barney Rules!" .... but the "way too many" commercial breaks really killed the flow.

The whole "talking to the kids in the future" is what turned me off of this show in the first place. It wasn't until I was told that the stuff in the present was so funny that I started watching. Frankly, I wouldn't mind at all if the kids in the future went away. I'm not sure how'd they do that, but it really does hold back the entire show.

I don't understand this at all. They mention the kids once or twice an episode during the voice overs. I don't think it takes away from the show at all, and, in fact, I actually think it helped the show yesterday.

I'm so glad this show it back. One of the few sitcoms I look forward to. I have no problem with him talking to his kids.

Because instead of it being a wide open story, there's a forced ending here. If this was a standard sitcom, we'd never have to sit and try to figure out how Robin (or Victoria, for that matter) fits into the "mother" view. I find it restricting and distracting. In addition, that's screen time (and more importantly, flow and pacing), that's taken away from the gang.

Ah, gotcha. I agree with you there. But I don't have a problem with the idea of the father telling the story to his kids (as long as there isn't too much voiceover). You're right though, they do have to get on with telling us who the mother is; it's not going to ruin the show if we know who Ted's going to wind up with.

Does anybody even care anymore about who the mom is? I know I don't.
Remeber folks.... the story is not found in the destination, it's found in the journey.
ETA: Of course, I probably don't care about who the mom is because of all the characters on the show, Ted holds the least amount of my interest. As far as I'm concerned, Ted is simply the McGuffin that gets all the other characters into the same room.
Hmmmm, do we know Ted's last name yet? Because it would be way cool if they named him Ted McGuffin.
