HUGE frustrations with Wireless and TivoToGo
This is REALLY irritating me.
Basically, my transfers interrupt after a few hours.
I have a Netgear WG111 (v1, the one that works) Wireless G adapter and a Vonage Linksys Wireless Router (WRTP54G).
I have done many things, including switching to a static IP address, changed channels on my wireless router, restarted my Tivo, and reinstalled Tivo Desktop.
I've searched and searched for this problem, which is where I got the suggestions above, but it is STILL happening. I thought for sure it would have been the static IP.
Any thoughts? It is frustrating for Tivo to produce this feature but do it so poorly!!
Thanks in advance...

Could be something on the same frequency as the wireless stuff - do you have any cordless phones in the house? Baby monitors? Anything wireless? Oddly, using a microwave can sometimes interefere too.
Are you getting any particular error message?
Do you have other wireless computers? Any issues?
Check with Linksys and see if there's a firmware update for your router.

Originally, the cordless phone was the problem. I saw for myself that once I used the phone, the tranfers would stop. It is a 2.4 GHz phone. After I changed channels on my wireless router, that problem went away. I can use the phone and the transfer continues. I have also turned the microwave on and watched for disconnects, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I am also on the lastest firmware for my wireless router. Wireless works fine on my laptop.
The message is something like "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it". Keep in mind that a connection is originally made, and it seems to sometimes go 6-8 hours before it gives me this message.
Thanks...

If you have a wireless network in your home, throw out your 2.4 Ghz phones and save yourself some headaches.

And when you buy a 5.8 Ghz phoneo or whatever, make sure it is full on that or non 2.4 Ghz bands. Some so-called 5.8 ghz phones are 5.8 Ghz one way, 2.4 ghz the other.

***UPDATE***
Alright, we needed a new phone, so I got a phone that uses 5.8 GHz and 900 MHz. The phone doesn't seem to be the problem. The problem is still there.
Even worse, when I get this message "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it", at least the transfer can resume when I reset the wireless NIC. NOW, sometimes, I get this message:
"function failed during execution"
Tivo cannot recover from this error and has to start the transfer ALL OVER. This is ridiculous.
Also, I'm getting about 150-160 k/sec transfer, which seems slow. My signal strength averages about 75%, but it can go from 100% down to 44% sometimes. It takes hours upon hours to transfer. I have a 9.6 gig show. The function failed message occured at about 8.5 gig. Now, it has to start ALL OVER.
Terrible, just terrible.
Oh, also, I just pulled the wireless NIC out of the Tivo to reset it, and the whole TIVO reset immediately. It just keeps getting better.

Well, if anyone cares...
I fooled with changing channels on my wireless router, and it seems to have worked. Although I did have a channel originally that didn't interfere with my phone, something else (who knows what) must have been interferring. Now, if seems fine. I've transferred over 12 GIG with no problems.
We'll see if it lasts!!

Why not go broadband over power lines. I'm using both Netgear and Slinglink ethernet connection bridges in a mixed use environment and they work flawlessly. (I think they use the same underlying haedware.) The Netgear are 2 for $120 and the Slings come in a two pack for about $100. Sling includes 2 ethernet cables. No software or drivers to install with XP. Throughput is many megabytes. You also need a usb to ethernet converter that will work with the Tivos. I picked these up from Weaknees. They guarentee them to work with the Tivos and they did.

Sounds like way too much cost for me.
By the way, I came home today and saw that the transfer interrupted again!!!
I'll go through each channel, but if this doesn't work, I am at a complete loss!!!

Are you in a house or an apartment - Even your neighbors with a 2.4gz phone or their own wireless network could interfere. I agree that the Tivo 2 go implementation that does not resume properly after errors need improvement. Even the most basic FTP software will re-sync and resume. Then again, I wired my house and don’t have to deal with these issues.

In a house. I don't think anyone else has wireless around here. I have much older neighbors. I can't believe how much trouble this actually is.
