Trouble with Series 2 SA

I have an 80 hour Tivo which is about 2 years old now. I am having some trouble lately and hoped someone might know what is going on.

At times, not always, the picture seems to flicker on and off and then I get a blue screen and it says something on it which I can't remember now since I am at work but I get the same message when the TV is on and I turn off the cable box, something like no signal or something. I have checked the connections and all seems to be in order.

Thanks for your help

The TiVo is not seeing an incoming video source. When I had this problem, it was the cable box. It was dying. I swapped it out with the cableco, and it's been fine since.

just wanted to make sure it was not my hard drive. If the hard drive goes will I still be able to view tv or will I have to change the connections to the TV directly?

It *could* still be the HD, I guess. That was just my experience. Although, usually when the HD goes, there are other symptoms. It's *probably* not the HD.

But if the HD does go, yes, you would have to connect the cable box directly to the TV directly. Just as if you didn't have the TiVo (cause if the HD goes, you kinda don't at least, until you fix it). If the HD ever does go, the folks here can get you up and running again.

If you're getting the unhappy TiVo screen which says it's not receiving a signal, it's probably the signal strength of the cable dipping or something going wrong with the cable box. If something is wrong in the TiVo, it's more likely to be the tuner (if you're using RF connections) or something in the video input circuits than the HD.

If you are using RF from the cable box to the TiVo, you might try switching to a video connection. That will bypass the TiVo tuner and also give you better picture and sound.

You'll know if it's the hard drive if already recorded programs (ones that you have already viewed and know to be OK) have the stuttering and freezing problems during playback. If these work fine, then it's something else.
