Adding 2nd Line to DVR setup

First post so I appologize in advance.

I am helping out a friend who was only usin one line in each of his receivers. We are adding a line to each so we got a powered multiswitch(5x8). I assume it is not an issue if we only use 3 of the 5 inputs. We completed all of the runs from the multiswitch to the receivers. When we went through the setup, the even number transponers had no signal while the odd's had strong signals and during the setup the signals were not found. What are we missing? When I hooked mine up I didnt experience anything like this. Could we have crossed the LNB A and LNB B cables and would that make a difference?

What type of dish?

If you have the round dish with only two coax connectors, then you must run both of those to the sat A inputs on the multiswitch, leaving the other inputs unused.

If you have the oval 3-LNB dish, then you have to run all 4 cables from the dish to the Sat A and Sat B inputs on the multiswitch.

Then connect your outputs to all of the receivers and dvrs.

It is a round dish with only two coax connectors. So I will try to put them in the two "A" inputs as you said. I just assumed one went in A and one in B. Hopefully that will do it.thx

There is a sticky at the top of this forum which is very helpful with multiswitch setup.

Yes, I read the sticky before I posted but did not see any mention of my issue.

Carl....Thanks for the help. I would have never thought that they both went in the A inputs. Everything went great from there. I did not have to activate the two new lines. Is this normal now? Will Directv automatically bill me for the additional lines?

There is no additional cost for the second line on the dvr. There is a mirroring fee for each receiver (a dvr is considered "a" receiver), and there is a signle dvr fee applied to the account for however many dvr's are used.
