Hot Deals on DRT-800!

As subsequent conversation shows I got my model number confused, partly because the "ad copy" on the Amazon site for the T800 says "DVD" -
So I'm getting a new T800 for what seems a fair price.

If you're still looking for a "cheap" DRT-800 - look on Amazon for a refurb unit - they are cheap - but come with only a 90 day warrantee and some people have complained that refurbs are not so refurbed...

They're giving 'em away today - A "blow out" sale on Amazon.
So I checked Buy.Com.

Picked up one for $225 with free shipping. (I scored a $15 coupon that I got in an email a while ago.) If you figure the $150 service/rebate - that's $75!

Is this too good to be true?

You may remember me as a DirecTivo fan - I still am - but I'm moving to a location with cable-tv only.

I could not locate that deal on Buy.com, they only showed the DRT-400

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, that link leads to a T800 DVR not the DTR-800 which is the TiVo/DVD recorder unit.

Yes Bob, by the looks of the link you provided this was indeed to good to be true. I hope you noticed that this was for the T800, which does not include the DVD Recorder.

Anyhow - maybe I'll keep it anyhow - if I want to burn any shows to DVD - I can use the tivotogo function and my PC.

So too good to be true but $75 ain't bad for the 80 hour non-DVD unit, is it?

No, $75 isn't bad for the 80 hour non-DVD unit, but Best Buy does have the Tivo branded (non-Humax) 80 hour DVR on-sale for $69.99 after rebate this week.

Tivo Series 2 80 hour

I'm not certain of the differences between the Humax and Tivo versions...

Thanks for pointing this out - I was wondering how they could put an 80GB hard drive and a DVD writer in a box and let it go at that price! So now when the box arrives later this week I'm not going to be disappointed --- assuming it works okay that is...

I've used DirecTIVO for years with no mods except for upping to 240GB and can count on one hand the number of shows I've transferred to tape or DVD - so assuming TIVOTOGO is workable for the occassional burn to DVD ... I'll probably be more than happy -- the only problem that TIVO can't fix is that my cable service picture quality seems quite "grainy" varying from slight to bad depending on the channel -- compared to the DirecTV pictures that I'm used to.

Your cable channels should not look as bad as you make them sound. Make the cable co. come out and fix it. You should be getting a pristine picture if they have you hooked up with clean connections and good signal strength. I think this is one of the reasons cable gets a bad rep, people assume the pq isn't going to be very good and never make the co. clean it up.

This advice may vary depending on your cable provider. But I wouldn't settle for a poor picture when it should be good.

I would if I were the primary on the account. Just moved in and don't want to bug the landlord too much to start with ... The nice thing about satellite - if you're just about anywhere "in the footprint" which includes everywhere in the US - the picture is the same -- with cable - if you're at the end of an old line - fahgeddaboutit! If an amp is failing - good luck having the local cable jockeys trace it out and replace it.... And let's not talk (much) about salt water spray at oceanside locations...

Could also be that Cablevision is injecting a modicum of noise onto the analog channels to induce PQ hounds to switch to their "IO" digital service ..... Nah... they're not that smart... are they ?
