HR10-250 Rebooted Last Night

Right around 10:00 when Without a Trace came on, it just shut down itself and restarted by itself. We weren't recording it, just watching a couple of minutes of it after CSI. I've never had this happened and it scared the crap out of me! After reading so much on here about hard drives or Tivos dying, I'm started to worry a bit. This unit is just over a year old (got it last year for xmas). Anyone got any ideas why it would do this? No power drop-out or anything occurred. It went through the rebooting sequence and seemed just fine afterwards. Should I be worrying that my unit is starting to die? Just heard so many horror stories on here and all, but have never had a problem with this Tivo up until now.

Cheryl

Don't worry about it unless it happens frequently. A loss of signal can cause a reboot like what might happen in heavy rain.

My HR10 seems to do this on Monday nights when my unit is scheduled to record from 8 to 9 and 9 to 10 on both tuners. It has done this consistently for months now. The unit reboots at about 8:45... strange, but since I have an HTPC recorder getting these shows, I usually don't care about it...

Anyway, it could be a bad section on the harddrive that the buffer is writing to and causing the problem.

I make this general comment to everyone and it's probably not your problem, but having a uninterruptable power supply helps keep mr tivo very happy

as others noted, unless you have lots of problems in the near future, just write it off as a one time thing.

Huh ?

I've never seen one reboot when there's a loss of signal or heavy rain.

Several times I've watched my HR10's reboot over and over when tuned to ESPN-HD and the rain was causing intermittent signal loss. When this happens I change the channel usually to a SD one and there are no reboots.
