New Digital Cable & Optical Audio

Just switched to digital cable with set top box. Have Humax DRT800. Want to use optical cable for digital audio. If I connect the optical cable to the cable box, Tivo video lags behind a sec or two. If I connect the optical cable to Tivo, I do not get the Dolby Digital sound. Is there a solution to get the best of both worlds? I suppose I could put the Tivo and the Cable box on different inputs on the A/V receiver, but that kinda defeats the purpose.

Any ideas?

You've hit on the only one - bypass the TiVo. You can't feed digital audio *in* to the TiVo, and if you route the video through the TiVo and not the audio, you'll have the sync problem.
