DirecTV HDVR2 OS Question

Newbie here. Thanks everyone for your help and advise.

I have been told that OS version 6.2 is the latest for the DirecTivo HDVR2.

Does anyone have any thoughts on when the next upgrade might take place?

If I currently have version 6.2, what will I have to do to upgrade when a later version is released?

What if people "acquire" additional functionality above version 6.2 through mods, what is the process to install these?

You don't have to do anything to get future upgrades. Tivo pushes them to the boxes when they are released.

Outside of increasing the recording capacity, discussion of other mods is verboten here. Google is your friend.

It's highly unlikely that there will be any more software updates for these DirecTV/Tivo DVRs, so v6.2 is probably the final release you'll need to worry about. DirecTV is now focusing on their own DVR software that's not based on Tivo.
