I had an installer come by day before yesterday to re-align my dish after all of the high winds we had in the metroplex about a week ago. The first stupid installers mounted the dish to the chimney and didn't do a good job of it. One of the bolts was almost all the way out. My signal strength had dropped into the 30's/40's range on 101 and 110 and the 50's/60's on 119.
Anyway, I asked the installer when they were going to start installing the 5 LNB dishes in Dallas. He told me that they started installing them TWO MONTHS ago. I said, we'll I've been an HD customer for a long time and have two HDTivo's and I thought they'd have notified me or something. He told me they aren't doing that and will only install the 5 LNB dish for existing customers if you call and ask them.
I personally don't want or need a 5 LNB dish, as I get all of my locals OTA and have the two HDTivo's, but it was interesting to know anyway. He said the HD Directv DVR should be out summer and to wait until then. I saw the CES press announcement that said the new box will do 30 hrs. of HD MPEG2, but the coolest part is that it said it will do up to 50 hrs. of MPEG4. Hope they get the bugs worked out of the R15 before it comes, since they'll basically use the same software. I can't wait!!!
