Directv HD DVR to Sony DVD Recorder question

I have the HD DVR hooked to TV with HDMI and composite cable to the Sony. When I choose save to VCR it only records audio even though I have the output format set to 480i. Anyone have an answer? Is the HDMI cancelling out the composite out on the HD DVR? Thanks

I'd guess that with HDMI connected it auto-negotiates the resolution.

I don't have an HDTiVo, but from reading threads on the HDTiVo forum it does seem that with the HDMI cable connected it disables the composite outputs regardless of format setting. There may also be a situation that if you turn off the TV then the HDMI will relinquish that control.

not sure if it helps but I always have hdmi plugged in yet the S vid is ok for recording to my DVD burner.

I also confirmed in the manual that when HDMI is plugged in component is disabled. Looks like S vid is your only simple option.

If you don't mind me asking, what model Sony are you using? 315?

Using the GX 300. I saw it at Sears on a close out. I had read some reviews of both the 300 and 315. I found most folks were happier with the 300.
