tivo recordings from one PC to another

Theoretically, should I be able to transfer a tivo recording from my Desktop with Tivo desktop 2.2 and watch it on my laptop using WMP 10 ?

I have transfered shows from my tivo to my desktop to save until I wanted to transfer to my laptop so I could watch them at work.. So, if that is what you are asking, then yes. It has worked for me.

My laptop using WMP 10.0 does not recognize the file ( the file extension actually). am is supposed to change the extension or something?

Do you have TiVo Desktop installed on the laptop? Even though you may be able to transfer the files using a shared folder, USB drive, whatever, you still need the proper codec installed on the laptop to play the files. You can do this by installing TiVo Desktop or, I believe there is a "HowTo" somewhere with instructions to 'hack in' the codec without installing.
