Need OTA HD antenna for locals

DirecTV will not give me HD locals, so I urgently need an OTA antenna for local San Diego channels ABC, NBC, CBS only.

How good are desktop antennas, or ar there any good antennas that clip on the the dish, and have the signal laid onto the DirecTV signal??

Would appreciate any input.

There are many variables that impact OTA HDTV reception. Here are some resources to start with ...

* http://www.antennaweb.org
Enter your zip code and see what type of antenna is recommended for your area. Also see exactly what channels are available, where they're located, and how far away they are.

* http://www.avsforum.com
Check out the Local HDTV Reception Forum. Find San Diego in the index thread at the top of the forum, then follow the link to see what folks in your area are using.

This is an excellent resource for antennas. Nit-picky point; there is no such thing as an HD antenna. A regular, old-fashioned OTA antenna (VHF or UHF, depending on where your digitals are broadcasting) will work just fine. But this Web site is an excellent source of antenna info.
