NFL - Week 17 *Spoilers*

Ahhh...hooray for 2nd stringers...
This week could be the end of the line for Brett Favre, Deion Sanders and Jerome Bettis (although you can still see The Bus in the playoffs after they stomp the Lions)...

I think the Lions came is a bit closer than anyone thought it would be.

I think Favre has one more year left... if, and only if, they give him a good supporting group.

I think McNair will be back next year, but not with the Titans.

McNair will be back with a different team...
Favre should have retired at least 2 years ago, what happened to going out without desperately clinging too long, aka Jerry Rice syndrome...
The Lions did do a little better than people anticipated, but lost none the less, and are still a franchise in complete disarray...
6 straight wins for the Dolphins....Gus Frerotte for Hall of Fame...
And the Ravens close out with a loss to the Brownies...way to back up that support, Billick...

At some point, they need to look at the coach. Maybe not now, but definitely next year if they do not have significant improvement.

The Falcons primary problem is the same as it's ever been...no WR talent...their only receiving threat at all is Alge Crumpler...
I see that Tony Banks is in action now...how exciting...

Yes, they have had some failures at that position (ie, Price), but the rookie looks good. Still, there is the problem of Vick's ability, or lack thereof, in getting the ball in their hands. I can imagine the problems of trying to build around a unique player, but after so many years you have to look at coaching, in addition to personnel.

Today was a monumental failure on both sides of the ball.

That was wild! Belichick is full of surprises. I still have not written off the Pats. I think they are the only ones who can stop Indy. I wish I could say that about my Steelers.

And you have to love Dick Vermeil. Not afraid to blubber in public.

So let me get this straight: you hate the Redskins and Cowboys in the NFL. You also hate USC, Ohio State, and Notre Dame in college football.

We always hear about your hate but we never hear about your love. Are there any teams you actually root for or do you just root against teams?

Favre was in this week when there a perfectly capable backup for him. I think this was his last game of his NFL career. While not that great of a season for the Packers, I think he's had one hell of a career. Hat is off to him.

They need someone to get them the ball too. I'd rather keep Schaub and trade Michael Vick, before the rest of the league realizes he's a fraud.

Well I say screw the Falcons and screw the Eagles!! They helped keep my Cowboys out of the playoffs. With nothing to play for, they looked like they had one foot already in the car ready to hit the gas and get the vacation going.

All we needed was either Carolina or Washington to lose OR Tampa and Giants to lose. And they all freakin' WON!! crazy.

Guess it wasn't time for my boys to shine yet.

Next year will be something else. Look for Parcells to return for one last hurrah and the Cowboys WILL be in the Super Bowl XLI. Count it.

All of which were highly unlikely... The third may have been a spiritual beating, but I'll take any season where the 'Skins beat the 'Boys three time

You're going to blame the coaches because Vick can't get the ball to his receivers? One more season like this and people are legitimately going to ask whether or not Vick can cut it as an NFL quarterback. He's a talent, no doubt, but if his passing continues to suck AND his team doesn't win, they need to look at other options.

Apply my about coaches to the words immediately preceding it. If they can't build a team around his unique talent after so many years, it is their failure.

Looks like the Falcons have placed some blame on the QB coach and sent him packing.

The defense fell apart on the Falcons, literally. They lost several key starting vets and replaced them with rookies. There were reports that Keith Brooking and Patrick Kerney were at wits end because of all the mistakes the young guys made. Maybe it will help them in the long run, but this year, the defense was the problem.

Vick has somehow managed to become both overrated and underrated. He's never going to be a great pocket passer, but it's retarded to think he might not be able to cut it as an NFL QB. In my opinion, they mailed in the Carolina game from the beginning, (and I don't mean by resting starters.) They weren't the only ones to do it in week 17.

The problem I see with Vick is he might be too talented. If the coaches designed the whole offense to take advantage of his talents, what happens when he gets hurt? No one else can play like he does. So now you are changing your whole game plan. I think the coaches compromise a bit and try to run a more standard NFL offense.

On top of that, a coach that runs a non standard offense runs the risk of being ridiculed if he fails. But if he runs what every other coach in the league runs, he can blame the player for not being good enough.

Vick will never be Tom Brady, but nobody expects him to be. Problem is, will anybody have the guts to use him to his ability?

Vick should be used more like he was in his first season as a starter (not sure if that was his rookie season, or if he sat for a year)...more running, less throwing to/at stiff WRs...he's got a strong arm...
That being said...maybe he's just Randall Cunningham Part 2...lots of media hype, not so much NFL greatness...
We'll see how much he stands out when Marcus Vick and Vince Young make it to the NFL...

Mr. Vick, meet Mr. Kordell Stewart. You're destined for being overhyped and ending up an average NFL QB.

Schaub has a 98 QB rating, FWIW.

Here is an example of Vick somehow being "underrated" even with all his hype.

Schaub is a great backup QB, and could probably start somewhere. He and Volek are the most sought after backups right now. Schaub isn't in Vick's league when it comes to putting a team on his back and bringing in a W.
