DVRs invisible to Tivo Desktop 2.2

Hey all,

Well, I've read probably every post on the help forum regarding getting this issue solved, and still nothing. Here's my hardware setup:

Series 2 DVR with a Linksys Wireless Adapter
Series 2 DVR with a DWLINK Wireless Adapter
Sonicwall TZW Hardware Firewall/Router
Windows XP Pro running Tivo Desktop 2.2

Both Tivo's connect to the Sonicwall Wireless Firewall/Router to get their
updates from the outside servers. They have both been updated many times
in the last few days and both connect to the internet just fine. I can also
contact my Tivo's from a browser using their IP addresses (hard set, but I also
tried DHCP) and I can download shows from them directly through the browser.

My problem is this: Tivo Desktop cannot see either Tivo and Neither Tivo can
see the other one. I used to be able to transfer shows with Tivo Desktop to
my desktop computer and transfer shows between Tivos room to room when I
had an old junk SMC Barricade router hooked up awhile back. I'm at a total loss.
This is not a firewall issue as all wireless devices on the LAN side of my firewall
have unrestricted access to eachother. The firewall just restricts traffic from
my LAN to my WAN and vice versa.

Any ideas greatly appreciated, I'm going crazy!

Forrest

have you gone to the tivo website, and clicked on the "allow transfers" box for each one?

is you PC wired, or wireless?

can you see pics/music on your Tivo?

Yes, both TIVOs allow transfers on the TIVO site and I see the Media Access Key on both TIVO DVRs. I can view my pictures and play my music from both TIVOs so they are seeing the Tivo Desktop server but The Tivo Desktop server still cannot see the TIVOs. GRR! Everything is Wireless, both TIVOs, my Desktop running Tivo Desktop, and the Sonicwall firewall/router. Just as a side note, when I go into Tivo Desktop Server Properties Tab I get the message "Please Wait, searching for DVRs" and shows this message forever no matter how long I let it "search".

I'm having the same issue. Ive used tivo desktop in the past. 'allow transfers' is selected for my dvr (and has been).

Tivo server is an exception in the windows firewall.

Same problem here. I had it in the past too. I forget what I did to fix it, but it comes and goes. I've tried resetting my TiVo, unsetting, and resetting my preferences on TiVo.com (connecting between changes) but it's a no-go.

I'm amazed none of the super Tivoheads have a fix for us. It's frustrating to say the least. I don't even use windows firewall. The strage part is that once I hooked the two Tivo Series 2s up to my Sonicwall TZW router/firewall they don't even see eachother when I got to the Now Playing List. Each Tivo used to show the other in the list so I could transfer files back and forth between them. I have to assume it's related to the Sonicwall but according to the documentation the Sonicwall doesn't limit any traffic on the Wireless LAN side of the firewall, only between the wireless lan and WAN. The only thing it does which I guess could be related is drop broadcast packets from the Tivo (192.168.1.25 and 192.168.1.35, 2 Tivos on the wireless Lan) and 192.168.1.255. I can't seem to stop the Sonicwall from dropping those packets no matter what I do. Would this cause the problem?

So I guess that's it. A problem with no solution. Too bad for Tivo I guess.

It's likely not a Tivo problem but your network, by your own admission.

See if your router has an option for 'wireless isolation' or something similar enabled. If so, disable it.

Another thing to try is if there is a loopback setting - try toggling it on or off to see if it helps.

Be sure to re-boot your router after making changes.

I am having the same problem but only with one of my Tivos. One tive can access the PC as well as the other tivo (which can't access anything) on my wireless network. The Bad tivo can make a service connection, but can't be accessed by the Tivo desktop, transfer shows or anything else that it used to do before. The network connection reada as excellent but I don't know hwta is wrong. My other Tivo is fine. I am pretty sure it is a network problem because my gaming adapter is not connecting either. But all was right before I disconnected my router last night to try to exchange it at BB. They didn't let me exchange it so I brought it back and reconnected it.

When I go to the Now Playing list, I can't find the DVR or PC listed on the bad tivo but these are listed on the functioning tivo

Please help.

What c monkey describes used to happen at my house sometimes when the 'main' router was re-booted. It doesn't happen any more because I gave the Tivos static DHCP assignments via my router.

I think what happens is that the resolver cache gets wiped out so when your PC goes looking, it's out of luck.

Try Re-booting the PC, then both of the Tivos and see if it's all happy again. Basicly this forces all of the clients to get a new IP from the router so they'll all 'check in'.

I've got the same problem. Wired TiVo on the network. My TiVo can see my PC and transfer movies from the PC to the TiVo, but I cannot see the TiVo from TiVo Desktop. My media key is set. It used to work (long time ago) but I haven't tried in a long time to get it to work.

Frustrating more than anything.

Check TIVO Desktop 2.2 by opening and clicking on "Server" then TIVO Server Properties".
If you get an error message, then uninstall TIVO Desktop 2.2 via the Windows XP Control Panel. Then reinstall it either from the original file you downloaded or obtain it form the TICO.com Web site.

I had a similar problem and tech support indicated that Desktop 2.2 still has some issues with Windows XP. After reinstalling, my TIVO and PC were able to communicate in both directions.

A re-install, and re-entry of my media access key did the trick. Thank you!
