Tivo HUMAX DVR + DVD-R and Comcast DVR

A friend has a comcast DVR and would like to transfer some shows on that to DVD. She is considering a standalone DVD recorder to transfer those shows to DVD. She is also considering a HUMAX Tivo DVR & DVD-R combo. Would she be able to use the TIVO unit to burn the shows currently on the Comcast DVR to DVD?

The output of the Comcast DVR can be fed into the Front Panel of the Humax allowing you to record the shows on the Comcast DVR onto the hardrive in the Humax. Then assuming the Comast DVR doesn't generate Macrovision protected video, the Humax will allow you to save the recodings to DVD. Transfer will occur in RealTime, saving to DVD takes 15-20 minutes per disk.

Once you have the Humax up and running, record show directly on the Humax and saving to DVD is wonderfully simple and fast. 15 minutes to save 4hrs of medium quality to DVD.

Thanks much. Sounds like the Humax is the way to go.

So, theoretically if one had Comcast HDTV with a Comcast DVR, could you burn these HDTV recordings to DVD using the Humax? I think I am correct in assuming that currently there is no standalone TiVo that is capable of recording HDTV programming? Is there a better work around?

Any help would be much appreciated!

The Humax unit only has Standard definition inputs, so yes you can use the SVideo output of the Comcast HDTV box as input to the Humax but what you are recording is an SD signal. Also take careful note of my assumption "assuming the Comast DVR doesn't generate Macrovision protected video" you can't necessarily assume this for HD content., particularly premium channels and PPV.
