Wishlist Not Recording

I set up an auto-record wishlist. I checked "view upcoming programs" to confirm that there were programs that would meet the criteria and should record. However, the programs never showed up in the To Do List and never recorded. I realize that there's some time lag, but I waited a day and a half. I then deleted the wishlist and created another one. Four hours later, the programs still aren't showing up in the To Do List. Any ideas what is going wrong? It's a new unit, and I've never set up a wishlist on it, but I have done it successfully on other machines.

I have a friend from High School who is an actress and gets guest parts on shows. She has been busy this season but not one of her appearances was picked up on a wish list for her name. It seems like the guide data isn't all that detailed recently. Old shows being rerun get caught but new stuff isn't.

cdnorris,

You have to make sure you select the option to autorecord the wishlist. You will know that you've done this correctly if in the wishlist main listing you see a blue ball with a silver star in it. If you don't see that, then you don't have it set to autorecord.

If that's the case, just highlight the WL and hit select, then choose the option to autorecord.

An alternative method of checking to see if it's set up correctly is to go to your Season Pass Manager and see if there is an entry there for it. If there is not, then you have the same problem.

Not to sound nasty or condescending, but this is almost always user error in one way or another. I hope this helps.

Also, did you check the Recording History for that (future) timeslot? It is possible that there is a higher priority recording already scheduled for that timeslot, and that is why your auto-recording wishlist isn't being scheduled.

You may need to adjust it's priority in the Season Pass Manager.

cdnorris - I am experiencing an identical problem. I set up two different auto-record wishlist for all the San Jose Sharks hockey games and all 49er games. The wishlists are definitely set to AUTO RECORD, and the games show up in the View Upcoming Episodes list, but they don't have the auto-record symbol (the blue ball with the star). There are no priority conflicts, and the games dont show up in the To Do List, nor Recording History - so no explanations are given as to why they arent set up to record.

I've deleted and recreated the wishlists, but the problem still occurs. I first noticed this when the hockey season began almost 2 months ago.

I am a savvy TiVo user, have had multiple TiVos for 5+ years. I have never seen this problem before, and have never had a problem in the past setting up auto-record wishlists.

I have set the same thing up for my hockey team and I get nothing. Of other concern is that I get listings for multiple showings (FSW2 AND NHL CenterIce for example)... and would like to have it look at JUST FSW2!!!

Over the last few years, this was NEVER a problem, just create a season pass for "LA KINGS" with "Hockey" catagory.. and I got every game.

Although I would not know why you would want to tape the 'Sharks'.

Interestingly, I am having the exact same problem. I posted on another thread but got no response so I redoubled my searching efforts here.

The blue star is there, it's definitely set to autorecord, but nothing happens. No priority conflicts. I'm pretty sure it's not operator error.

Actually - i found the solution to my problem of the wishlist not always picking up the live Sharks hockey games.

I needed to set it to record both "First Runs and Repeats". Even though all the live games are first run, it appears TiVo has a hard time distinguishing that. So, selecting repeats started picking up every game. I *think* it's because TiVo says to itself, "oh, San Jose Sharks vs Los Angeles Kings? I recorded that 2 months ago. It's a repeat."

The TiVo does not determine repeats that way. The repeat information is in the guide data. The TiVo does have a 28 day rule but that is by program id not by title. To disable the 28 day rule set the season passes to record all.

Well, regardless, all i know is that it doesn't say "repeat" anywhere in the guide's visible description. But it fails to record unless you set the wishlist/pass to record "repeats and first runs"

I should have said the first-run information is in the guide and not the repeat information.

ozone is right! I setup a lot of season pass / wishlists for sports. This Works for standard channels and for me NFL TICKET. Haven't tried it with MLB Extra Innings.

Wishlist for sports summary - *only wanting the actual games to record*

1. Create using Keywords: "AT" "team name"

Example - "AT" "CUBS" note the quotes. Using "AT" prevents it from recording other Cubs programs and anything else that might have Cubs (like a show about bears)

2. Set the Category -
- Show Types
- Live

3. Set Show Type -
- Repeats or First Runs. * this stumped me for the longest time...Once I changed it from First Run I was good to go.

4. Add a good Ending Buffer -

ROCK ON!

Technically those are one at the same. The TiVo uses the Original Air Date field of the guide data to determine whether the treat a program as First Run or a Repeat. The First Run text the appears in some guide descriptions is not used by TiVo; probably because it is both unreliable (not everyone uses it, and those that do don't use it consistently), and because it doesn't match TiVo's definition of first run.

However, if a program lacks an original air date, while having the rest of the guild data for the episode, the TiVo 'assumes' that it is a rerun. (I don't know if that is deliberate, or if it is just a quirk of how an unusual situation interacts with the TiVo's rules.)

Last Thursday while I was away on vacation, all my existing wishlist stuff stopped recording!

I noticed it on Saturday when I got back.

There was plenty of space, and I hadn't changed anything in weeks, and "upcomming episodes" showed tons of stuff, but the to-do list said "no upcomming episodes". I played around some and nothing changed so I did a reboot waited for changes, gave up, and went to sleep.

The next day wishlist stuff started recording again.
