Exclamation Help! Tivo does not have my channel lineup!

I just got my new Tivo and was working through the guided setup and after going through all the cable lineups in my area not one of them matched what was coming into my TV.

For example:

My TV broadcasts WCBS as channel 12 while TIVO had it on channel 2.
My TV broadcasts WNBC on channel 14 but TIVO had it on channel 4.

My program guide is all screwed up and I cant use season pass or any other quide program becasuse everything is wrong.

Has anyone had any experiance with this?

Will Tivo fix this for me or am I just screwed?

Tivo said they will get back to me within 5 days, is this true?

Thanks

Hopefully we can help you out a bit quicker then 5 days

First off what State are you in and what Provider do you use?
Do you use a cable box or no cable box.

Have you tried re-running guided setup and trying every different lineup they had available?Even though it may look wrong (the name of the lineup) it could be the correct one for you.

Ok so your using Time Warner as your provider. Setup using cable with no cable box.

Does Time Warner have a name for the tier of service your on?
I.E. Basic, Extended Basic, Premium , etc?

If not what premium channels are you receiving?

The reason I am asking all this is so hopefully someone with the same provider, area, and lineup as you to shed some light on this for us.

My Time Warner bill says I have Basic (direct hookup) cable.

It is basicly broadcast cable, I get all the network channels EG: Fox, NBC ABC etc.. at perfect reception without an antenna.

I never felt the ned for full cable but since 9-11 my antenna does not get good reception.

I have no premium channels.

Thanks

Is this a building-specific cable line up? If so, TiVo can make a line up for you.

If not, are you sure you entered the right zip code? I'm sure that after all these years, you're not the first person in Queens to buy a TiVo so it should be something fairly simple.

I am not sure what building specific line-up means but I do live in an apt.

I agree I cant believe I am the first person!

I went through guided setup a few times, even with different zip codes of surrounding areas and I got the same result.

I called Time Warner and they wanted to charge me $5 extra a month for a cable box which would fix the problem. Thats crazy I would still be getting the same channels.

Do you know how long it will take for Tivo to build me my own lineup?

Some buildings have their own mini-cable systems that rearrange the channels for whatever reason. Generally these channel assignments aren't reported to anyone. (For example, the local paper or TV guide has little interest in including a channel line up for a hundred people.) However, TiVo is willing to build line-ups for these cases. If they can't get the info from anywhere else, they may ask you to report the line-up for your building. The reference to 5 days above sounds like they were talking about that.

When I spoke to TIVO they asked me to send them a lineup card so I called Time Warner and they said they did not have one for my lineup.

Will Tivo still be able to help?

Get a lineup card, or get your building manager to send one to TiVo.

I asked around the building and anyone with a cable box did not have this problem (which is most people).

I dont think anyone has a lineup card not even Time Warner!

I know that in some areas, they're telling everyone that they'll need to get a box eventually. They may have stopped reporting a boxless line-up as another step to "encourage" boxless customers to get them.

TiVo uses the same lineups and providers as http://www.zap2it.com
When I type in ZIP 11427, it gives me 3 lineups available from Time Warner:
  • Time Warner Cable - Brooklyn - Cable Ready
  • Time Warner Cable - Brooklyn - Digital
  • Time Warner Cable - Brooklyn
See http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/system...&zipcode=11427
At this screen you have the opportunity to double check the lineup to see if it matches the channel you receive. See if any of those match.

Go to www.zap2it.com, put in your zip code, and see if you can find your line up. Zap2It is owned by the Tribune Media Services which is the organization that provides guide data to TiVo.

If it doesn't appear correctly, you might try some neighboring zip codes that might match.

Just came from Zap2it. I checked all the line-ups in my area and the surrondnig areas and zip codes.

None of them are mine.

I appreciate all the suggestions!

Any one have anymore?

So, is it your building that has this lineup? I didn't see a definitive statement about that.
Anyway, make up a list of what the channels are and submit it to Tribune Media Services via their website www.zap2it.com.

The most tedious solution is for you to type up the channels yourself and email them to Tivo.

Not fun, but it should work.

I dont think it is my building's line-up because I know other people in the community not in my building that have the same line-up.

Who do you pay the cable bill to? They should be able to supply a line up. What do you use to find out what's on? Is it printed in your local paper?

In any case, make your own lineup list and send it to Tribune.

this might help

I created a lineup with TiVo with my specific channels. (12 is cbs 14 is nbc) if you have the same lineup then you can use the same one I created.

first go to zap2it.com and type in 11365. go to elechester fourth housing lineup and see if what you are getting matches what I set up. if it matches follow the steps below.

go through guided setup but enter 11365 as your zip code. select elechester fourth housing as your line up and then just select the channels u receive.

let me know if u need additional help.

A lot simpler.

Make a list of your channels, what the call letters are, network affiliation, etc, and where that channel comes in on your cable system.

Go to this webpage...

https://customersupport.tivo.com/caseSubmitLineup.asp?

Type your specific channel lineup into the window that'll come up. (You might want to just type it up ahead of time and then copy and paste it into TiVo's info window.)

Give TiVo any other info they need (such as what your building or apt complex's name is, and if your cable is provided by a known cable company...so they can come up with a way to describe your service).

In a few days, TiVo will have added your specific lineup to their options in your zip code area. (They'll invent a name for your lineup, maybe using the name of the building you live in.) That way you can get your machine set up, and anyone else who gets TiVo service will have that option given to them right away.

Trust me I wish it was that easy. I posted a lineup request and got no reponse. after a few weeks of waiting I called TiVo and they needed an official letter with from my apt complex on their letter head. without that they could not help. it tool a while before the apt complex got around to it and it then took another few weeks before TiVo implemented it. I wish it was as easy as submitting a lineup on the website. this was over a year already so maybe they changed the policy.

Thank You!

I live in Brooklyn using TiVo without a cable box and received a message from TiVo telling me to update my channel guide. It totally screwed it up. TiVo support was of no help. Talked to them several times, and they wanted an official Channel Lineup from Time Warner after I sent them a list I put together.

I read this thread and used 11365 for my zip, and it worked! Thanks aviboom! You've helped save my sanity. All the best.

I have a similar problem. I have 'basic' cable up through channel 99, then an expanded digital for 30 or so more channels with on demand service available. i tried all 3 of the different choices available for me; the basic channels are fine, most of the digital are ok, but at least 2 digital channels are missing (both for kids shows, Noggin and Nick Kids). Tivo says I get the channel, but i get nothing but a black screen on those channels now.
