MAC Address
Hi,
Do all TiVos have the same MAC address?
I have my wireless network set up to only allow specific MAC Addresses. I just got a second TiVo, one for the living room, and one for my bedroom. I just copied down the MAC address for the new box, went into the setup on my WAP to add it, and noticed that it is the exact same address as my other box. Aren't MAC addresses supposed to be different?

The MAC address is on the network adapter, not the TiVo. If you examine the adapter, you should find a sticker with the MAC.

Or the box the adapter came in - my Linksys USB200Ms don't have it on the adapter itself.

Ahh yes, that makes sense. And I did know that, and I even explained what a MAC address was and where it came from to my wife while I was making this post. Yet I STILL didn't make the connection.

With the adapter connected it will be shown on the Phone/Network setup screen.

so here's one for you, I have the old Tivo (Philips 14 hour) the modem went out, got the network card for it, i hooked it up to my router that is hooked up to the cable modem, works great!! BUT when i log into my router and look for the connected tivo with mac address, there isn't ANY sign of it, i keep hitting 'refresh' over and over again while the tivo is making a "call" but there is no sign of the tivo using the router, even though it obviously is. Then I activated the mac address filter, so that only those mac addresses i put in there should be able to access the router, BUT even with this feature on, the tivo is able to make a daily call with no problem. Somebody explain this to me! I know I shouldn't complain, but what's the point of the mac address filter if the tivo goes right around it?

I suggest you head over to the forums at www.silicondust.com/forum
Most routers apply MAC address filtering to wireless connections only. (Belkin models apply it to wired too.) The adapter is probably set up with a fixed IP address so there will be no sign of it on your router.
