I saw this... Question, why would it be necessary to leverage the TiVo Stream to Stream videos to a PC on your home network?

There is no need to down rez the image, and the premier has a fast enough transfer rate...

Hmm, maybe to enable trick play off an existing technical architecture?

One of the primary functions that the stream does is convert the high-bitrate MPEG-2 files that are recorded and stored on the TiVo to a more efficiently encoded 720p MPEG-4 file. This allows TiVo to playback it's videos on pretty much any device. MPEG 4 is much more commonly found on phones, tablets and even desktop operating systems than MPEG 2. There is no reason why a computer shouldn't be able leverage that same efficient encode, the video coming out of a TiVo Stream is going to be much much much smaller in size and will more easily stream on wireless devices around the house.

Additionally, with the release of Windows 8 (Especially Pro), the lines between a tablet and a full desktop operating system is blurred. So, while you make think every Windows PC is a full OS, that's not really the case with Windows 8.

It makes sense from an architectural perspective to require the TiVo Stream to handle all streaming duties for the TiVo Premier (Series 4) series of devices. It simplifies things and doesn't require them to write a ton of code just to duplicate functionality in the TiVo itself.

It's a lot to infer from that picture.

One advantage to a PC solution is you should be able to communicate remotely using a Bridge VPN.

Maybe it is a refresh of that huge selling Nero LiquidTV TiVo TV!

Looks like TiVo is including the Mini as part of the whole home solution in this advertisement as well.

Unless one has a reason to infer it.

It'd be pretty sad if it's just a Photoshop hack to represent TiVoToGo. I'm hopeful they wouldn't resort to such shenanigans. Then again, they've previously paid bloggers for coverage and hired Tebow as spokesperson. So who knows what's on the table.
