Yes, but now Karen successfully completed a complete preview run as the star of a Broadway-style musical, and received glowing reviews by the critics. Of course, they're going to give Karen quite a bit more power to keep her happy... with success comes power.

Ellis (the evil assistant) was fired at the end of last season, which was several months ago in story-line time. Eileen did the "Ellis, you're fired" and "Get out of my theater" thing. I don't see any problem with him not appearing this season at all.

I've got no problem with that... in fact, I like that they're mentioning real life musicals, real life theaters, and including prominent real-life Broadway people where it makes sense. Not doing so would make this show more fake and comic book than it already is.

Watch the first hour last week via iTunes and then watched all two hours last night. Was a little underwhelmed, but thought the first hour was much better than the second.

Don't like the new Karen very much. She was so cold and b*tchy to Ivy. Too much of a reversal of last season.

Speaking of Karen, her "relationship" with Derick. Everyone knows that Derick is a mysoginist pig. They were a little too close. If they weren't setting up new bartender/song writer as a potential love interest, I would be afraid the producers were trying to put Karen & Derick together.

Like Ivy a lot more. But I would like to see her and Karen be more friendly to each other. Loved Ivy's "Not going to happen" to Derick when he leaned in for a kiss. Good to see a stronger Ivy.

He used to like her, but he's liking her less and less as she becomes a bigger and bigger star ("making it").

I thought the premiere was really interesting to watch while being aware of the subtext based on all the behind-the-scene drama that was going on.

"It's time to retire the scarves". lol!

Did Megan Hilty put on some weight?

In some scenes it looks like it, but when she was in the tight black dress it didn't look like it. I think the wardrobe people are just doing a crappy job.

Well, Ivy did try to humiliate Karen at every turn last season and Ivy did sleep with Karen's fiancee. I think a little bitchiness is warranted.

My wife and I liked the first season, but these first 2 eps didn't exactly wow us. It seemed... slow? A very plodding pace.

I did like the dumping of Ellis, Leo, Frank, and Dev, as those were by far my least favorite storylines. But those weren't the only problems the show had last year, so it's not clear if it's going to be any better.

I also liked Ivy's apology. Part of the show's problem is the whiplash in characterization you would get from one ep to the other. Ivy's character, in particular, was schizophrenically written. One ep she's a horrible person who enjoys being that way. Then she's misunderstood. Then she's sweet. Then she's suffocated by trying to measure up to her mother's successes. And then rinse/repeat. So I didn't find the apology unbelievable by any stretch, but I just hope that they can smooth out her character so she's so extreme in all her many directions.

Not sure about the new musical. Jeremy Jordan has a great voice, and I liked some of the new songs (seemed very Rent-esque), but I really didn't like his character, and I thought his acting was "off". He's a fairly successful stage actor (like Megan Hilty was/is), but maybe he hasn't figured out how to make the transition yet?

Speaking of Megan Hilty (Ivy), she did look different to us, my wife especially, who noticed that she had freckles on her face/chest that were not noticeable before. Maybe they changed her makeup? She's always been short a little squatty (not in a bad way), so her overall figure looked similar to me, but she did look different.

That's funny...my wife and I thought the only really good stuff in the episodes was Jimmy's stuff. Then again, we LOVE Rent.

Sure looked like it to us. In some of the scenes, her face was puffier than before. But then the next scene she would look normal. Not sure what was going on there.

Either way, the two episodes have started to border on the land of ridiculousness. Some of the situations they are on just are beyond belief. I want the show back that showed the process behind how the musical is made.

It might just be correlative rather than causative.

I did almost vomit when Karen and Derek "had their moment" but I managed to control myself.

Honestly, these two episodes basically bored me because I've stopped caring about almost all of the characters.

This. Exactly.

Who are we supposed to root for? At least season one had an underdog. Now we have Karen who's apparently already annointed as a star... a sexual harrassing director, a bitchy prima-donna who's trying to find humility, and an obnoxious bartender, song writer who is a snob, a depressed cheating wife. Oh, and a producer who can't acknowledge her mistakes and acts entitled (for some reason I can't understand).

I guess there's the gay songwriter... I like him. But he seems to have no ambition except to take the easy path in all situations.

I'm rooting for the cute roommate who sleeps around.

I got a kick out of the "Would I Lie To You" number. A throwback to the Robert Palmer mannequin band.

Wasn't too bad, wasn't too good. It was nice that they were able to wash away so many of the 1st season problems basically in a few lines.

But are they just creating new ones? I agree that Karen was much less likable during these sessions. And why would a no-name singer like Karen really be "discovering" this new writing talent? That is so implausible.

What was NBC thinking when premiering a 2-hour season premiere on 2/5 and then being off for several weeks until 2/19? It was off the air for so long...wait the extra weeks and premiere it where it can have a consistent timeslot.

I noticed the freckles too, and I don't remember ever seeing them last year. She always seemed to have a pure white Marilyn complexion and a Marilyn figure. She may have gained a few pounds tho--not out of character if she's depressed and all.

I know nothing about how broadway works, but what was the deal with the girl part of the writers duo getting bad reviews and him getting good ones. I thought they were a team? Then I thought maybe he did the music and she did the lyrics, but I thought he said," they liked your lyrics, tho" And if the show was such a success, how could they hate her part so much?

I wonder if the "evil assistant" was on the receiving end of that text message sent by Jerry.

I still think they should get both Ivy and Karen to play Marilyn/Norma Jean. I know it's not an original idea but it's not like they are doing anything ground breaking anyway.

I was thinking she wrote the dialog and he wrote the music. Then I googled "musical the book" and came up with this page because I think they were saying she wrote "the book":
http://www.musicals101.com/book.htm

So it seems like she basically writes the plot.

Thanks--that makes sense. In Bombshell, I would think the plot would be the most difficult, since everyone knows all about the story. And I guess if the songs are great it could be a hit with a sketchy "book."

I'm sorry everyone, whenever I like a season 1 show and then they retool it for season 2; it then gets cancelled. This Karen was so different than Karen 1.0, Disappointed in the direction but will watch ep 3
