In most shows, there are conventions for when somebody is dead and when somebody is being made to be thought dead, and in this case they definitely did not pass the threshold for being dead.
But this isn't most shows, this is THIS show, and I can't imagine a "death" scene that would completely convince me that somebody is supposed to be dead.
If they're dusted, I'd be PRETTY sure. But not completely convinced.

Sam gave her a hug and said he was going to check in on her tomorrow. That told me she's dead.

In a show where somebody could have a huge hole blown through her head and thus be dead, sure.
This ain't that show.
I really don't think they're through with Luna putting Sam through the wringer.

I use the Franklin Rule.
If Franklin getting his head smashed in was not to kill him, a bullet to the chest will not kill Luna.

You are correct, I only spelled it that way to make the relationship with genie obvious.
I don't know about the "d", though. I would just spell it jinn.
Ifrit starts with a letter not in the English alphabet (Yasser Arafat's last name also starts with that letter). If I had to spell it, I would have gone with afreet.

I've seen Djinn, Jinn, Ifrit, Ifreet, Afreet...
Jeez, you Ay-rabs, no wonder you're so troublesome, you can't even make up your minds how to spell stuff!

I'm still trying to figure out how Misr/Masr got misspelled into Egypt!

Ifrit are the more mischievous of the "gin" and kids (especially boys) are usually called Ifrit when they are causing havoc (as boys occasionally are known to do!).
They are NOT smoke monsters, though!

Maybe they just like Final Fantasy
They better watch out, Ifrit has a ton of hitpoints

They wanted to have the little scene with her and Sam making "don't leave me" eyes at each other. If they blow her head off it tends to lose some of the romantic qualities.
At least for most people

That's Buffy. On True Blood they turn to goo, not dust.

Right, but "gooed" just doesn't work.
I hereby declare "dusted" to be a cultural norm for "reducing a vampire to a uniform, non-viable substance." So let it be written, so it shall be done.

I've never seen or even heard of "dusted" before this thread, so I reject your proclamation.

But you're old, weak, and pathetic, so you don't count and I can safely reject your rejection.

I think "burst" is a good word for what happens. "Gooed" is not so good, since although they do turn to goo, they also burst apart rather explosively with the goo flying in multiple directions, and just saying "gooed" does not adequately portray the burst of gore that goes flying around.

So, I liked the episode but it's kind of moving slow.
1) I love Terry's story with Ifrit, many people hate it but I definitely love it.
2) KILL RUSSELL! Thank heavens they actually found him. I thought it was going to take another 20 episodes for that to happen.
The authority is the only thing I'm really interested in at this point.
Does any one besides me feel like this show could do away with all the supernatural bull?
VAMPIRES VAMPIRES VAMPIRES! would just be more than enough, and that's the best focus at this point.
Among the shapeshifters, ghosts, werewolves, and fairies, it's getting a little bit annoying

I do, but the whole werewolves and fairies thing are what's bothering me to be honest.
Shapeshifters? Sure fine, but not too many supernatural things at once.
They're overloading it with a bunch of subplots and crap.

I was just listening to a podcast discussion on this point the other day, where the point was made that in shows like Game of Thrones magic seems more special and powerful and surprising and compelling, because it is more rare. When everyone is special, nobody is. I grew to have a similar gripe with The Vampire Diaries -- everyone and their uncle is involved somehow with the supernatural (vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts, etc). There's like one token normal character left.

Isn't that also what happened in "Heroes"? I gave up on Heroes part way into S02.
