stand by questions

When you place a Series 3 in Stand By mode, it spins down the disk, right? After a scheduled program records, does it return to stand by mode? What about an external disk? Thanks.

No, the disks are running 24/7. The TiVo DVR is always recording (Live buffer) with both tuners.

There is no way to actually turn off a TiVo. Standby mode simply shuts off the video output.

I don't record anything between 4AM and 4PM so i have a AC timer shut off my TiVo-S3 for the 12 hours, been running this way for two years now..no problems.
