I totally agree. I have never particularly liked Skaarsgard, but he was incredible in this role.

As far as the finale goes, put me in the camp of liked it, not loved it. I don't think Linden's behavior was bad writing. It made a lot of sense for things to unfold like that. This post sums it up pretty well:

Also, we know that she went crazy before season one even took place. Why? The Seward case. It's not hard to believe that finding out that her boss/lover was the killer would push her back over the edge.

The ending certainly wasn't satisfying to me as a viewer, though. It was frustrating to see Linden make a series of poor decisions after she saw the ring. A predictable ending would be Linden not shooting him at all. Shooting him once was surprising, twice with Holder there saying, "Don't do it," was just shocking. I am kind of annoyed with it, since I'd rather not start off next season with a bunch of leftover baggage from this season.

I hope that the writers don't back down on what happened though. She killed him, don't give us some BS that her shot missed or something. I hated that scene at the end of season one where they made it look like Holder was a dirty cop, and then they just explained it away at the start of season two. If you're going to shock me in the finale, make it something real.

Overall though, this show improved a lot this season, and lived up to the potential it showed in seasons one and two.

He's my favorite part of the show. I think Kinnaman does a great job in that role. The character is very human and vulnerable, and we often get glimpses into the real man beneath the tall Eminem in a hoodie image. I also think he's hilarious. I don't think the show would be nearly as entertaining without his comic relief.

Sorry for the thread bump, but I just finished season 3 on Netflix. Been binge watching it all night.

I had quit watching about 4 episodes in during the original run. After being mildly disappointed by season 2 I didn't really want to commit to watching week to week of season three and then being disappointed at the end.

But, I really enjoyed it! I think binge watching much of the season at once really helped the pacing for me. Also the fact that it was pretty much one story arc through the whole season and was resolved helped too.

The execution episode was a highlight for me. Was especially touching that Linden took the kid outside the fence where his father could at least see him once before he died.

All of the performances throughout the season were great and I found the finale satisfying, since Linden really didn't have any proof aside from the ring, and was pretty emotionally battered at that point.

Looking forward to Netflixing the 4th season.
