FIOS without cable card. Possible?

I switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS today. When I signed up for their basic service (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) it said that no cable card was needed.

When I re-run guided setup I pick the correct cable company but the channels it provides me are not correct. So I tried the scan feature on both cable and antenna (moving the cable over of course) and TiVo did not find any channels from either medium.

When I move the cable to my TV and run a scan, it finds the 40 channels.

Does this mean that I have to get a cable card for this to work? I was hoping to avoid the extra $4 a month charge.

You need a cablecard. If you cannot afford $4, that is just sad.

You can use QAM, but there will be no guide data and you will have to setup manual recordings if you go this route.
