r10 Music Photos and more

I had one of my four tivo r10 boxes go bad. I swapped it with a box purchased on ebay and the new r10 offers me a choice "music, photos and more."

I'd like to add this feature to the others. Can someone please share some info on this feature, and how to open it up on my other boxes.

Thanks!

You have to "hack" the box to do that, and for the R10 that means a hardware modification (PROM replacement.) Not for the faint of heart.

Thank you for the quick response.

So it seems I was lucky on this one, because it's showing "Music, Photos & More."

I'll search online to see if there's a place to have it done. Thanks again!

There is a user (ID "omicron") in another forum which I can't link to directly but it is deal database dot com - who performs the service of the PROM replacement. Once you do that you can use the standard hacking techniques, as discussed in that forum and in the "Underground" section here, to hack the software. It does require your taking the disk out of the TiVo, attaching it to a PC and running commands there.

My experience with this feature makes me suggest to you that it's not worth it. You'd be better off with an external box that will play music and photos from whatever source you're using - there are many options, including Apple TV.

Update on this -

I hooked up the tivo wireless G to the dtivo R10. I added the IP address of a computer on the wireless network running the tivo software (with music published).

The r10 doesn't see the IP address.

Has anyone else been through this process?

The USB ports on the R10 are not configured for the wireless. It will not work. In fact, I think the only thing you can use the ports for is power.

Hi Tony -

Are you sure about that, even on a hacked R10 showing the options above?

If so, how do I connect it to my laptop?

Thanks!

If it is hacked, a USB to ethernet adapter should work. The R10 is probably too old to know how to use a TiVo wireless G adapter.
