The Killing - S3E01/E02

Very happy to see this show back. As I thought they would do they are using the case that Linden was obsessed with prior to the Larsen case as this seasons story. Very interesting so far. I like the way they have tied the three separate stories together so far, homeless Seattle teens, the murder of one of them with the case from Linden's past.

And yes its still always raining...

I like it so far. Seems like there are a few story lines that appear separate right now that could get tied together at some point.

I'm liking it so far, too. I just hope that it doesn't take two seasons to tie things together. Glad that it's back.

It's not supposed to.

I just hope they keep the focus on Holder and not Linden. He is such a better character.

Really great opening episodes. This is what it was like when we first started watching season 1. I hope they handle it better this time around.

My wife and I noticed a lot of cow and milk references. Holder drinking milk, milk in the background in other scenes, the cows. Either the milk marketing board paid for that, or it will have some relevance later.

I haven't watched yet, but the episode is waiting for me. I might have misunderstood that this season would be a whole new deal so, my question is -

If I was one of the people (and I was) who ducked out after season one, am I going to have no idea what is going on with this new season?

Didn't take Linden long to descend into crazy mode.

You should be fine. The only thing it references from the first two seasons was a case that basically sent Linden to the looney bin. It came up a bit more in season two but it was also in season one.

I'm in again as well. So I guess Linden will become a "private" investigator?

BTW, iTunes has these two episodes for free.

+1. Holder is great.

Regarding the drawing of the trees, can someone refresh my memory on that? Didn't something happen in the past where Linden found it on her refrigerator, meaning that someone had broken into her house and put it there (assuming she didn't put it there herself while in a crazy state)?

That's about right... it was her hotel room though.

Thanks. That scene seems very important to this season.
Quote:
In her motel room, Linden finds a drawing from a previous case attached to the refrigerator door. Her son Jack (Liam James) denies putting it there, so she runs out into the hallway to look for intruders. She and Jack later show up at Holder's door and ask to spend the night at his apartment. Outside the apartment, an unidentified person watches them from a parked car.

Three episodes in and I'm intrigued. As I suspected, this is/could be a good show without the morosely depressing Larson family dragging it down.

Well, I'm into it. But I actually liked the previous "the killing"......for a summer show, I thought it was quite good, contrary to the opinions of others on this board.

It's much the same. I do hope the show runner has learned and gotten better, because all of the elements are there. It's still has the possibilities of a great show.

We'll see. So far, so good...

Yeah - I don't miss the Larsons at all. So far I'm really liking the new season.

Much better balance between the main characters and the story.
Last season felt like 60% characters and 40% story.
This season feels like 80% story and 20% characters.
Much better.

Yeah, me too. I don't think the characters have ever been a weakness on The Killing, though the Larsen family could get a bit annoying from time to time. For me, the Holder character and the general mood of the show are it's two main strengths.

I have always thought the show's main weakness was all of the red herrings, especially in the first season, where it was almost a red herring of the week. I think they have improved upon that dramatically.

I'm not sure if I've watched that episode yet, but I'm pretty sure I know who you mean. I'm fine with it as long as it's not a barrage of suspects that are strongly suspected and then cleared (and sometimes disappear from the show) like it was in season one.

Top of the Lake was similar to The Killing and it avoided this pretty well, in that you kept suspecting people up until the end, but it was only about 5 hours.

No threads on this show but I just wanted to say that this season has been outstanding. The past weeks episode was probably the best of the series with Mireille Enos performance standing way out in front. The tension level created in the first 30 minutes even though you know her character won't die is a credit to the acting and the writing. Just an incredible episode.

Maybe spoiler nitpicking, but this thread is for eps 1&2 and you are referencing ep 8. Please spoilerize what I did (even though it may be obvious)...

Funny how this show went from a chore last season to must see tv this season. The changes they've made have certainly worked for me.
