Finally Replaced R10 with HD Version
I have had an R10 for a long time and was very happy with it. I have hearing problems and thought maybe an HD DirecTV TiVo with a sound system would help. The R10 was not showing any signs of failure so we were waiting for something to fail before going to HD. I have Vascular Dementia, which is not like Alzhiemer's. I have difficulty learning new things due to short term memory problems, but once learned, I remember them just fine. So I didn't want to re-learn the DirecTV HD box interface and stuck with the familiar-to-me DirecTV HD TiVo. I have not gotten the new big TV and sound system installed yet so I don't know if I will be able to differentiate the dialog from the music or crowd sounds better yet.
My actual question is about the phone line. I have a FiOS digital phone line and Internet. I did not switch to FiOS TV because I'd have to learn a new interface and I like DirecTV. The R10 would not successfully make a call on the FiOS phone line. I am having trouble with the new THR22 also. Does the Internet connection (which seems to work, it downloaded new software successfully the first time I tried it) take the place of the phone line requirement?
I also have problems staying on topic while speaking or typing so please excuse the rambling nature of some of this thread.
Synopsis: Does the THR22's use of the wired Internet connection make up for not being able to phone in?
