Lost audible tone from TV pressing on TiVo remote

Help.

My TiVo HD XL no longer generates an audible tone you can hear from the TV speakers when I press the buttons on the TiVo remote. Did I press something on the remote to disable the audible tone by accident?

Never mind--I think I fixed the problem by rebooting the DVR. Hopefully, that reboot also fixes a problem with not recording certain programs, too.

There's a menu setting, something like Messages and Settings, Settings, Audio, Sound Effects Volume, that let's you set the level for the various bleeps and bloops.

It shouldn't change on its own, but stuff happens.

Not unusual on my TiVo HD. It returns soon though. My hunch: threads on an overloaded CPU.

My dirty little secret:
My wife hates the beeps and boops but I like them. And I've never told her I can configure them off.

Yeah, keep adding threads and eventually you're screwed.

Usually you are ok until you decide to pull on a loose thread. Then the whole MPU unravels.
