Question issues with movie downloading

Hi folks,

I've been downloading movies using TiVo Desktop for several years, but just recently started having issues. Basically, the movie downloads ok, but when I'm playing it using Windows Media Player, at some point it just stops and shows me that screen Play Again / Go to Library / Play previous List. So it looks like the recording has ended, but in fact it's not. And if I skip that point, it would play till real end just fine.

Now, when I'm trying to play that file in VideoReDo, at this exactly point I get this error: "Video Thread: Invalid file format from external reader".

I have several TiVo boxes and I see that behavior in all of them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One possible explanation is that your downloading to a FAT32 formatted partition, which has a 4GB file size limit.

For a standard definition, analog cable, recorded onto a Series 2 2 hour movie, this works out to about 1 hour and 55 minutes.

So you don't get all of the movie.

The solution to that is to use NTFS formatted partitions to download the recordings to.

I have NTFS disk, and all the movies are less than 1 hour long.

This sounds like you are saying that the entire file is downloaded to your computer and you can access the entire recording, it just won't play all the way through.
Is this correct? If so, it is not something I have ever run across before.

If you have VideoReDo, try running the file through the Quick Stream Fix tool and see what happens.
Also, post about this problem over at the VideoReDo customer support forum.

They might be able to interpret your VRD logs to see what is happening.

What is your source? Cable or OTA? If cable, which company and how is your setup connected?

I have satellite from DirecTV, and I'm trying to record int'l channels. I had this setup at this place for a year, but only a week or so ago I started seeing this issue.

Maybe give kmttg a try with the decrypt box checked so that the files are copied as unencrypted mpeg2 files. Couldn't hurt.
