Arrow - S01E016 - "Dead to Rights" 02/27/2013

Well Rob, you were right.

Not only is Deadshot back but Geoff Johns turns in a stellar script, changing the vacuous Tommy Merlyn into a more fleshed out and sympathetic character.

Not to mention an action packed fight scene between Oliver and China White and the reveal of Oliver in costume to Tommy.
And I don't think that Tommy's ok with it.
(Of course, what happens when Tommy finds Malcolm's secret room?)

Throw in Alex Kingston as Mrs. Lance as a capper and you wind up with a humdinger of an episode.

I couldn't help but notice that ole Floyd was staying in Bludhaven and Malcolm said he went to Nanda Parbat.

Will they PLEASE give the Vigilante a mask? It doesn't even have to be a decent mask that would fool anybody outside of tv land. Just something so he can have a face to face conversation and doesn't have to stand in the shadows and talk at the floor all the time.

Oliver had an awfully tough time fighting a 90 lb woman who was wearing an evening gown.

Do people still believe Oliver is just strategically wounding the evil henchmen?

I don't know much about Nanda Parbat, but what are the chances that Malcolm was trained by the same Yao-Fei? There's only a decade difference in years. Everyone seems to be so connected in this universe.

And let's not forget Laurel's mother and the canary reference.

Who's next to learn Oliver's secret? Speedy? At this rate, half of Starling City will know. (But not Laurel or cop girlfriend)

You confused me for a moment..."Huh? The Vigilante isn't in this show, is he? I haven't heard any mention of a DA named Adrian Chase..."

Oh, you mean the Hood!

But yes, it is getting silly. This seems to be one of those things that sounded like a good idea in theory, hasn't worked out in practice, and they can't find a way out.

This show is my favorite new one. It has some roll your eyes moments, but don't all Superhero type shows have issues like this.

I think you just have to suspend belief on the hood over the mask aspect.

Isn't the Hood on Banshee?

I actually felt kinda bad for the assassin who got whacked before getting 20 feet away from the helicopter. He got one good quip in before he became another notch on Ollie's quiver.

Yeah, I think that it will be the series' "Clark Kent glasses".

Without the advantage of people having seen it literally all their lives. It's amazing the stupid things we can blindly accept with proper indoctrination. This ain't one of them, and they've really pushed past the point where it can make any possible sense.

I would rather they do what they are doing than put a little mask over his eyes and suddenly nobody can recognize him. Unless by mask you mean a mask that covers his entire face.

This is a favorite show of mine too. I think I can say I like it better than the other CW DC show Smallville. The women in Arrow are 1,000,000,000 times less annoying.

Arrow is 1,000,000,000 better than Smallville was.

Yes, I mean a little mask that disguises him only to people in tv and comic book land. At least something better than the dirt he smears on his face now. I just find it ridiculous that nobody even tries to look at his face when he talks to them.

And when did he learn to speak perfect, unaccented Chinese?

When he spent five years living on an island with a Chinese guy?

The one who seemingly spoke English for those five years?

We've only seen the very early stages of the guy on the island. He's still an immense whimp and we know what he turns into. It is reasonable to assume the guy is going to learn a lot while on the island.

Yes, but not enough to teach Ollie to speak accent less, fluent Chinese.

They were on the island for FIVE YEARS. That's plenty of time to learn a foreign language fluently, especially without cable or the internet to distract you.

Love the show...tiring of the island time. I'm not a comic book reader, so I don't know if there will be some immense tie-in to the island, but it's really dragging the show down...

I like the island stuff. I will say the one thing I don't like is him still being a sniveling wimp. There have been signs of him starting to get serious. So, I look forward to seeing the rest of his story on the island.

Don't forget, he also learn Russian. And shooting bow, and fighting, and hacking, and acrobatics, etc.

It had occurred to me that this is the first comic book hero that's dropping bodies wholesale. Spider-Man, Batman, even Superman seemed to only to knock them out.

Felicity mentioned that she want no part of the slaughter.

What's wearing thin is the Mom-melodrama with the rising violins.

Hey, as Rob said, he's on an island with little distraction. He's not sitting on TCF talking about TV shows all day.

THAT'S why I can't speak Russian or Chinese or shoot bow or hack!

I've always wondered...

I still ain't buying the speaking fluent Chinese, like a native thing. Curiously, I have absolutely no problem with the expert archery, fighting and Cirque Du Soleil acrobatic skillz.

But I've beaten that dead horse long enough, so I'll shut up about it.
