Question: I know it's possible for the average person to hang from a chin up bar with one hand, but is it really possible for the average person to hang from the edge of a building by the fingertips of one hand for more than half a second?

Probably not, but on the other hand it's amazing what a person can do with enough adrenalin and the proper motivation (like an 8-story death drop).

Somehow I feel like this is something that Mythbusters has done.

Edit: Yup, they have: http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/myth...roic-hang.html

Yeah, I hate those too.

Though I've come to think of it as the modern "On tonight's Duke's of Hazzard..." scenes before the show began. Dukes just didn't claim it as narrative.

Was it down? I thought it was on the same floor as her, which made it even more confusing as to why she didn't try to get to it..

Heck, if she was absolutely about to slip, even trying one last lunge towards the latter would be reasonable to try... probably wouldn't work, but if it saves you from death....

Yeah, just a couple of trashy ol' novels called "The Illiad" and "The Odyssey".
(I admit I had to look up the term.. I do think it's a bit overused.)

I was kind of hoping that when I saw Nathan on some show (either Kimmel or Kilborn) in the past few days that the host would ask him "So are you and Maddie going to finally do it?"

We know that the writers were afraid of the change in dynamic that their coupling would bring (going so far as to put those fears in the mouths of the characters on multiple occasions). It appears that they've decided that if they have to change, then they might as well go for broke! It will be really interesting to what they do with this, assuming they don't chicken out and try to undo it.

If they wouldn't have did the sneek peek Hawaii 5 0 would have won the slot.
Most people don't have DVR's and they watch the first couple of seconds to see if it may be interesting and that little cliff hanger.. caught a bunch of viewers.

I'm not aware of any study that showed that. What is the basis for your assertion?

Both of these are wholly unsupported conjecture.

Does the Firefly episode "out of Gas" qualify as in media res?

If so, I thought that was very well done.

I would say yes, and in fact, that is an excellent example of a creative way of using that storytelling device. It didn't just show a scene from the climax, then a title card reading "3 days ago..." like so many of these types of episodes do.

And technically there were at least three different time periods mixed together (with lighting cues for each).
